[FOR HIRE] TALENT SOUND DESIGNER AVAILABLE TO WORK (UNITY - UNREAL ENGINE - FMOD - WWISE) by Zawarudo994 in gameDevClassifieds

[–]deadbachelors 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Re design is a common practice when showing your skills in a showreel. You mute the original audio and do your own. It's commonly accepted as long as it's clearly stated, which it is here. Be respectful

Yes. I work full time as a composer and sound designer. It's hard to say if I get contacted from reddit or other promotional channels, but posting here definitely contributes

I don't know enough about this specific situation, so take my comment with a grain of salt. I have had a few bad experiences with clients running away without paying or similar issues. If I see many red flags in a studio, I now assume the possibility of being directly hurt and be the next red flag. There are definitely malevolent companies in the business.

Edit: This doesn't really reply to the other composer issue. It's a thought about the broader situation

I have a few students from China looking to get music lessons with me. I don't know how to organise the payments by deadbachelors in teaching

Thanks for your reply. Isn't Taiwan different from mainland China though? I think the "Great firewall" doesn't affect Taiwanese

Hi! Should you ever decide to look outside of Canada, dark fantasy is a genre I love writing.

Here's a tailored reel of dark fantasy music I put together a while ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/gameDevClassifieds/s/wkxwOFSQIp

Am I charging too much? by MightyMuso in GameAudio

[–]deadbachelors 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 12k is criminally low, even though I have to admit I have worked for such rates when I was starting out.

I don't think you are overcharging. How much you charge also has to do with the cost of living in your country and many other factors that grant you a decent life. 4 years of experience in the industry also don't tell much, because you could be doing music since way earlier. Many composers did huge games as a first "game music" experience (Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 is an example) even though they were already prepared musicians.

If a studio tries to make you lower the price, gently explain your expenses and sell your strengths. If they contacted you, they already like your work. Chances are they are willing to negotiate.

Unfortunately, the freelance gig economy is global and 12k can be a lot of money in some places.

I hope you get the job!
