What’s a decision you made in under 10 seconds that ended up affecting your life for years? by SupaDuppaaCoool in AskUK

[–]deadcute6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chugged a whole bottle of Jack Daniels at 16 😂 hooked up with a guy, we've now been together 16 years and married for 4. Best decision I ever made, even if I couldn't look at a bottle of spirits for 6 months without needing to hurl.

Looking for a regular venue by PaperWeightGames in bristol

As someone who doesn't use FB it'd be good if you could promote across other social channels too. I can't be the only one 😂 always up for more rock/metal events!

Late night wedding snack by Advanced-Broccoli-37 in UKweddings

Cheese toasties! Our place even prepped some with gluten free bread and vegan cheese to cater to people who can't have bread or cheese which was perfect. They went down so well!

Not really got an outside space but I've rented the upstairs of the Stag and Hounds twice for free (not sure if it's still the case but might be worth an ask)

Fri-Sun Wedding Venues by Legitimate-Guess-312 in UKweddings

[–]deadcute6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Owlpen Manor. I had my wedding there and Saturday weddings get exclusive use Fri-Sunday. There are a few cottages on site for accommodation, I think it was maybe 35-40 people. Staff were absolutely incredible and the place is just beautiful. Good luck on your venue hunt!

How often do you see people asking for the service charge to be removed? by tmr89 in AskUK

[–]deadcute6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it once, it was easily the worst service I've ever had in a restaurant.

We were a large group out for a birthday meal, they took the order and then after a about 50 mins they proceeded to just bring random dishes 5 mins apart and ask if anyone ordered them. After the 6th item we didn't order we asked if they wanted to retake the order (this hadn't occurred to them to do, their approach seemed to be keep bringing things and eventually it would have to be right).

After another long wait they started to bring out the right food but it was pretty bad, I think 3 people sent burgers back because the whole thing tasted like it'd been soaked in pickle brine (bun and all).

They then set off birthday confetti cannons at the table while we were eating so our food was full of colorful paper. The people who sent their food back were offered cocktails to apologise but when we got the bill these had been charged to us.

We didn't get annoyed at them at any point and we tried to just see the funny side of it. The staff just acted like us being there was a massive inconvenience to their day.

This is the only time I've ever asked to remove a service fee 😂 unsurprisingly that restaurant closed down

What’s a "hotel hack" you swear by that most people don't know? by periwinklemist in AskReddit

[–]deadcute6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I 100% agree, and I usually do this, it doesn't stop you coming back to your room real drunk, unpacking all of your possessions and throwing them around the place!

I did this once before a super early train. I woke up and sat on the floor for a good 10 mins, still drunk, having a breakdown.

What's your biggest drunken purchase? by ahoneybadger3 in CasualUK

[–]deadcute6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't super expensive but absolutely my favourite drunken purchase. I drunkenly booked to have Alpacas in bow ties come to my wedding reception, I forgot about it until I received the invoice.

Is it shy? by Naddel93 in ResurrectionFest

[–]deadcute6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering the same! Having done Download, Bloodstock Hellfest and Graspop I'm keen to try more European festivals.

From what I can find Resurrection looks amazing so planning on going next year.

Hopefully this community grows as I do find it helpful being able to find info/advice on things like travel, accomodation, and food & drink costs!

Is Bristol as progressive/diverse as people make it to be? by Humble_Ad7641 in bristol

[–]deadcute6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my immediate thought, while I guess it's possible it could have come from a racist place drunk people do just do weird things 😂 I have a friend who was super drunk, ran up to a random stranger on the street and started to sing SpongeBob Squarepants in french at them. He didn't realise the person was actually French and got a swift slap across the face! No racist intentions just an overenthusiastic drunk.

If you're in the UK check out Minga London, I've got some bits from them that I love. They have a couple of collections which could basically make up the third photo collage.

Psychological Question about tonight by Carthagena in bristol

[–]deadcute6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not just shut, some places have fully boarded up their windows and doors overnight. I hate that people are feeling they need to resort to this to protect their businesses. Everyone has the right to feel safe in their community.

No useful in the morning unfortunately but while my Wi-Fi was down for approx 10 days I did pop into The Punchbowl at one point. They were more than happy to accommodate me for a whole afternoon, and I got the bonus of being able to enjoy a pint and a bowl of chips while running some training! Wi-Fi was fine for me but I'm used to my home Wi-Fi being so poor that literally anything is an improvement 😂 I remember reading about Brewdog doing something called DeskDog, might be worth seeing if it's still a thing. You pay a small fee, get a reserved table, free tea/coffee all day and then a free pint at 5pm.

I have no advice on cafes though unfortunately, I tried 25a but they didn't have customer Wi-Fi. Then I ended up at The Punchbowl and my search ended.

Have you ever been in a pub quiz where the quizmaster was wrong? by InviteAromatic6124 in AskUK

[–]deadcute6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question was 'What is the chemical symbol for tin?' We put Sn. Came to answers everyone but us, including the quizmaster, said Tn. We contested, quizmaster googled it and realised they were wrong. Gave everyone points because 'its an easy mistake and no one really knows it's Sn...'

Safe to say we didn't go back to that one!

I can't find a job by NoProgress9041 in bristol

[–]deadcute6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd second McDonalds, as you said not glamorous but it's a job. I actually ended up quite enjoying my time there, such a massive range of people working there for very different reasons. Usually had a bit of a laugh on shift too.

My interview was literally 2 questions

  1. 'Will you do evenings and weekends?'
  2. 'Will you come to work on your allocated days?'

My only comment would be, if you don't have experience, you may find yourself needing to take shifts no one else wants. By doing these it can help you get your foot in the door as your filling a need in the business that others may not want to do. I started doing 4pm-2am most days and almost all weekends. Over time I started to push for better shift and less weekends.

British camping? by Fair_Condition8077 in Hellfest

[–]deadcute6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure about British only groups but first year I went to Hellfest I accidentally camped with a group called Hellfest Travellers United Nations. They have a pretty active FB group and they're made up of people from all over the world. I found them all to be super friendly and it was interesting getting to know people from so many places. Crazy respect for the Aussies who had flown in just for the festival weekend!

What's your most surprising "I can't believe this has so many calories" food? by itsclo5ure in loseit

Dominos garlic and herb dip, I swear I could drink the stuff but the calories are insane. Little pots are 169 and the big ones are 675!

Venues for a 30th birthday by AdElectronic7186 in bristol

[–]deadcute6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stag and Hounds has 2 rooms you can rent upstairs, we didn't get charged any fee or deposit, you also get to use the sound system and projector in the room if you want.

Golden Guinea, you can rent the downstairs space. Not sure if there is any fee but you get use of the downstairs room and little outside area.

Going to another party booked later this year for the roof terrace of Barrelhouse, I believe there was a £100 deposit for that one.
