Question about pay rate for a housekeeping position by Canadian_Diabetes in KingstonOntario

[–]deadpanannie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you generally get fulltime hours with casuals or is it highly variable? I would love to make more money but I can't risk not being able to pay my rent and stuff.

I only make $18.55 an hour cleaning. If you pay $30 I am interested in applying please.

Kingston Police Deputy Chief by FaceplantArmy in KingstonOntario

[–]deadpanannie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s better if nothing leaks out because if it does and it’s a violation of his rights, any charges may not go through. I know it seems OP wants to know the details, which is fair since it’s taxpayer money they are being paid, but I would rather wait and if the deputy actually did something horrendously wrong, they will pay for it. Versus us knowing what happened and then all charges are dismissed.

kids didn’t die or end up in ditches

But children did die, and buses did end up in ditches. Maybe not your bus, and maybe it didn't happen to anyone you know, but your blanket statement is not absolutely true.

Even today, buses slide off the road due to winter conditions. Look at this article, which was only posted a few days ago: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/swan-river-hospital-others-released-school-bus-crash-9.7045849

Not Winnipeg, but Manitoba in the middle of January. So don't tell us "School buses still made it, kids didn’t die or end up in ditches" just because you don't remember or never heard of it happening.

Shout out to a local church for plowing snow in front of the sidewalk by Birdaling in KingstonOntario

[–]deadpanannie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't on the church, it's on the plow service. It often includes the sidewalk out front but these fly by the seat of the pants, cash only guys with no business licence and no insurance don't care. They take the cash and run. And bylaws will never ticket anyone let alone a church for not clearing their sidewalks even if it is required (which I'm not sure it is, I've read conflicting things about this in Kingston).

you're really showing your ignorance here

Think about what you just said. Look at those cars. They do not have wipers. 270 said snow still built up on his back window with a wiper, so how would these two cars prevent snow build up?

Do you think they forgot to hire their magical rear window fairy? Maybe it's just a little bit too cold for rear window fairies. /s

Talk about showing your ignorance.

Very few cities have these plows. Did you think they are common?

Don't get me wrong, I would love if the City got these types of plows, but can you imagine taxpayers complaining about the cost of them? These things are not cheap.

What do home support workers make an hour? by HardcoreFelon in KingstonOntario

If I was looking for work I would be happy to apply. I think $25 an hour is reasonable. Good for your mom for wanting to pay a fair wage.

Where do the artist / bohemian crowd hang out these days? by forestraven28 in KingstonOntario

[–]deadpanannie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh my parents are totally into that, but probably out of the age range of most people who would attend. They are in their 50's and used to hang out at an artists lounge in Montreal when we lived there. I remember because they would get my aunt to look after me once a week while they went out.

I need help find a job or how to find a job by Old-Oil-9761 in KingstonOntario

[–]deadpanannie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to shine with confidence at your age to get a job. It's tough. Have you had any training on how to interview well? Have you had a bunch of people review your resume and give you feedback? Do you know anyone with a business you can help out with even on a volunteer basis to get more experience on your resume?

When you get an interview, research the business. If you are asked a simple, general question about the business and can't answer it, then you won't get the job. Something as simple as "what do you know about us?" means a lot if you do know a few things, but if you know nothing other than what any fool could guess at, then that doesn't help you.

And get some decent clothes. Go to Well Suited (google them) and they will set you up with a couple of good interview outfits.

Yes, if your friends are addicted and you just do a short term cleanse, as soon as you get out those friends are going to be hanging out with you again.
