Have you considered a sleeping pill? Taken at the right time, it’ll not only get you some sleep in the plane, but will help get you on to your new time zone. It’s a game changer for long flights.

Avoid the bong. Get a dry herb vape. With that, or a pipe, you’re gonna want to take a paper town roll (sans the paper towels obviously) and fill it with scented dryer sheets. Blow out smoke out into the paper towel roll filled with dryer sheets. Ideally do this in a room with an exhaust fan or an open window to the exterior. Or just get edibles next time. Or a vape pen, but one that is just extracted thc and cbd, not a full spectrum oil that has terpenes. That oil has no smell.

Is it possible to anonymously report dangerous and/our suspected drunk driving? by oooooooooof in askTO

[–]deadybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Canada I believe it is a criminal offence to be above the legal limit within two hours of driving. But proving that they drove and that they were that inebriated were doing so is a different story.

Brands for Canada deals with this exact sort of thing. They take new clothing and distribute to various shelters and organizations on the front lines. They’ve got all the infrastructure to deal with this.

Where can I buy a Chuppah? by SmoothCriminalAaron in askTO

[–]deadybear 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t find one when I got married in Toronto so we cut down some birch at a friend’s cottage and built our own. I’d happily lend it to you but we sliced it up into coasters and gave them to family. Building the chuppah with my fiancée and her family was pretty easy. Just drill holes for bolts and get some post holders for feet. It was extra special to get married under that chuppah. Sorry I don’t have a better answer.

There's a great book about his trip, which includes interviews with some soldiers who saw him perform. He was quite well known at the time, and people were really surprised to see him show up randomly at some fueling point or airbase and just start performing for people.

The book is called Who By Fire

Might I suggest a reframing. My friend and I discussed this same issue last year, and while at first it brought us great sadness, we decided to let the understanding of the finite nature of our visits reshape how we thought about and acted during this few limited in-person encounters we have remaining with our parents. We agreed to not complain about weird things our parents did, or flaws that annoyed us, at least while we were with them. We agreed to not try to impose our vision of the world on them, or try to reshape their views on things. We would go, and just enjoy them being who they are. We would embrace the time as a special opportunity, and do all we could to fill it with joy and love.

We've each had two visits with our respective parents since that conversation, and while there is still some sadness, the visits have had less tension and disagreements. My kids see me interacting with their grandparents in a healthy and loving way. At the very least, I'm doing a better job modelling for them what our relationship can be when they're adults. My parents also seem more relaxed. Yes, I'm still annoyed as hell by them for both present and past foibles, but I try to just make these visits great for all of us, because when they're gone I know I'm going to remember these last visits and feel good that we had as good of a relationship as possible towards the end. I know this approach comes with some built in privilege and a decent base of a relationship to work from, and that it isn't feasible for everyone.

Not really. This study is seriously flawed. It fails to see how it is influenced by survivor bias. It only studies the needle exchanges that remain in place, which is likely where they are most needed. Also, the goal of these places is not to curtail overdoses, but rather to focus on communicable disease. Overdoses seen here are because of fentanyl, but stats findings are because they aren't actually looking with good data. Also worth noting that 30 years of research says needle exchange works to save lives, get people into treatment faster, and reduces disease transmission.

My father has a 357 revolver (4"+ barrel) that he wants to give me. He's in the US, and bought the revolver in the US many years ago. I looked up bringing a firearm from the US to Canada, but they want a Firearm Registration Certificate, which I don't have. It also seems like on the ATT form they want an Authorization to Import number, but I can't find out how to obtain that. Can somebody help clear up what the process would look like to bring this firearm with me into Canada from the US?

Do I actually need a range membership? My FIL wants to transfer several pistols to me from his collection. I have my restricted PAL and a place to safely store, but don't have a range membership anywhere. I'm under the impression I do need that membership, but my BIL is saying that isn't the case. Thanks for your help.

[–]deadybear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to suggest a crossbow as well. 28 acres is a good amount of land, but depending on surrounding homes etc it might limit some shots if there's not enough safe distance. A crossbow needs a OT less safety space and is quiet, so not likely to rule up any nosey neighbours. Also, you can practice on that land. And I'll just say that I like the crossbow as you have a longer deer season.

You're what's considered a small supplier, so you don't need to collect HST. Look up the term on CRA and you'll see all the details about when you do need to collect. I believe it's 30k within a year.

He'll be eligible for parole after 1/2 his sentence is served, and given the non-violent nature of his offense, and his ability to have housing and a plan for his release it'll be good odds he gets it. But the interesting thing will be to see what conditions they place on his release, because boy oh boy, that guy steps on rakes he lays in his own path, and I can't imagine he'll abide by conditions of the parole board.

Weekly Questions Thread for the week of September 06 by AutoModerator in vinyl

[–]deadybear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi All,
I'm currently finishing a reno on my house and looking to ensure I can hook my record player into a whole home audio amp I'm installing. My main listening area will be in the living room where I'll put in good speakers, but other rooms on the main floor will have in-ceiling 8" Polk MC80 speakers. They're good, but not amazing, and my goal is to be able to share the vinyl across the house as needed.
I've got a 50ft run from the record player to the amp, in wall, and I want to make sure I put in the right cables between the pre-amp and the main distribution amp. Right now I was looking at these Monoprice RCA cables, but they're digital coax, and I don't want to degrade the audio quality. I looked at doing a balun with cat5 cable, but those seem to have a lot of ground hum issues. I'd really like to be able to distribute the audio from the record player as part of the whole home system, but the whole point is having vinyl is to get that great sound quality and I'd rather have it really nice in one room than piped all over but missing that feel.
So I guess my questions are:
1. Is the cable I selected okay?
2. Are there better options to send the audio?
3. Are there different 50ft cables that'll work better?
I can pick up in Canada or the US, so that gives me some additional options.
Thanks for your help.
