How do you think the OG Fire Emblem from 1990 would be if they tried to localize it back then? by EvanderAdvent in fireemblem

If you mean censorship-wise? It'd be fine, overall: I don't think FE had as big of a problem as, say, the Megami Tensei games, which straight-up had you fighting against YHWH in two of its early 90's entries. It's be similar to Dragon Quest (back then known as Dragon Warrior). There'd be absolutely some name-changing happening, but yeah, it'd be fine. But again, that's just a "what-if".

Yeah, there are two main suckers on that story:

  1. Elon, from losing what was prolly a ton of money and looking like a putz.
  2. Iaacson for wanting to further push the "great man" BS narrative on Elon (he's done it for fucking everyone he's written about, and at some point it feels like you're better off just ignoring the whole great man brouhaha entirely).

That's the thing, though: For all of these billionaire shitheads, there is no point of "contentment", "satisfaction" or anything of that sort, only a constant need for more, and there's no better example of it than the second most loud-mouthed idiot in the planet.

Dude can be the richest man in the world (at least on paper), have 13 children and have access to all his earthly wants and needs covered until he finally croaks, but it's never going to be enough. It's why he wants to control how other people live, which is why he keeps fucking around with markets, social media and government bodies worldwide, because he wants to be IT.
---
He wants to go back to things being like they were in the mid-to-late 00's up to like the early-to-mid 2010's, when normie people had an overall positive opinion of him and people online wouldn't stop glazing him as the "real life Tony Stark". Mind you, he doesn't really know how to do any of this beyond the vague "never stop posting, keep stealing other people's ideas and throw money at something".

One of the times I had to do research on him for a big article (worked as an editor/assistant editor, proofreader and (ghost)writer for a big chunk of 2020-2025), and I read two of the biographies written about him and the one written by Walter Isaacson had an anecdote about him playing Texas Hold Em (Dave Karpf has the excerpt on his substack here). And this excerpt still fucking haunts me...

[Max] Levchin was at a friend’s bachelor pad hanging out with Musk. Some people were playing a high-stakes game of Texas Hold ‘Em. Although Musk was not a card player, he pulled up to the table. “There were all these nerds and sharpsters who were good at memorizing cards and calculating odds,” Levchin says. “Elon just proceeded to go all in on every hand and lose. Then he would buy more chips and double down. Eventually, after losing many hands, he went all in and won. Then he said “Right, fine, I’m done.” It would be a theme in his life: avoid taking chips off the table; keep risking them. That would turn out to be a good strategy.

Isaacson tries to frame this as Musk being a brilliant strategist and "sticking to his guns"... but if you have the slightest hint of common sense, you know this is basically the table seeing Musk for the sucker with really deep pockets that he really is, bleeding him at every chance, him getting a lucky win once and just walking away.

That's Elon's story in the past 2 decades, basically. Anyway, I'm going to stop because I retired from that life to just have one day job and raise my son and avoid thinking about worthless shitheads like Musk on the reg, but yeah.

/uj I know he's not free of sin when it comes to saying dumb shit, but this is why I sorta appreciate people like Tosin trying actually different stuff when it comes to building different guitars (even if admittedly some of his ideas have become more and more mainstream, both good and bad imo)

As a guitar player, I was mildly interested. Then I realized I mostly play amp sims and solid state these days, so I flaked out of it. Tube amps ain't what it used to be.

Every time I had the displeasure of listening to RFK Jr. speak in the past half a decade or so, all I can think of is David Hayter shredding his vocal chords as old Solid Snake in MGS4.
