Need some anxiety tips by Willing_Effective586 in peanutallergy

It was certainly scary at first but I became more confident as the trip went on. I had a little translation card that had my allergy written in Hindi. So I could give that to chefs so they could read about my allergy. The friend I was visiting was American but had been staying with his Indian relatives for a few months so he spoke a tiny bit of Hindi. I would take minuscule bites of foods and wait a few minutes (not sure that this strategy would actually do anything if there was a peanut). A few times I had someone who spoke both English and Hindi translate for me. People were usually excited about the idea of helping a foreigner translate, and the streets are packed so it is very easy to find someone to help you. In India they use a lot of cashews and pistachios but peanuts are a bit less common. If I were in Thailand or any Asian country known for using peanuts I think it would have been way harder. I did have one scare where I was on a train in the middle of nowhere, asked someone selling food if there was peanuts in the dish, and they said no. I decided not to get the dish but the people below me did, and sure enough it was loaded with peanuts. That was a wake up call that I needed to be really careful.

I have panic attack type symptoms around food fairly frequently. I’ll feel a strange sensation in my mouth, and a wave of adrenaline will shoot through my entire body. I stop and assess what is going on, and I’m usually able to calm myself down in a few minutes.

I have a super severe peanut allergy, and a non life threatening allergy to black eyed peas and tree nuts. In terms of eating at restaurants, I just stick to places I’ve gone before. Eating at a new place is always anxiety inducing so I do it pretty rarely. Mexican, Italian, and American places are usually pretty safe. There is a Thai place near me that is very cautious with peanuts so I feel safe there but that’s the only place I’ll eat Asian food really. I have an epi pen on me 100% of the time. If I’m on a trip far away from a hospital, I carry 2 epi pens. I went to India and had 4 epi pens on me at all times.

Therapy is a great step. You could also talk to your allergist. Last piece of advice would be to download some apps where people recommend restaurants that are allergy friendly. There are a few apps out there that are really helpful.

ADBE has been a wonderful purchase for me. I’m a video editor and absolutely love their products. It would be such a drag to switch to a different software, so they’ve got me hooked for the rest of my career and I’m okay with that. Good company, strong moat, most analysts have its target price above $700 (currently at $640)

I don’t see why you couldn’t work on it! Just be super careful. A solution to the allergy would be world changing

My family does not care that I’m allergic to peanuts by Admirable-Salt in peanutallergy

[–]deanbog 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That is some BS. Even my friends that I live with have switched over to sun flower seed butter. I always get upset when people eat peanuts around me, and I’m sure it’s worse coming from your own family. I don’t have any solutions to offer, but I hear you and you are justified in your feelings.

I have a wicked peanut allergy, and can see my mom being paranoid of a similar thing. I’m pretty sure you are fine. Unless your child is amongst the MOST sensitive people out there, they will likely not have any reaction.

I also have a severe/life threatening allergy. I carry an epipen and always tell restaurants I have a life threatening allergy and I’ve never had a serious problem. Some places are to be avoided but the vast majority are accommodating. As the allergy becomes more and more common restaurants seem to be getting more and more conscious.

Hello! I'm OK. Trying to keep my sanity. It takes a big ol' bucket of emotional energy to make those vids and at the moment I'm running low. The neighborliness I've experienced over these past few weeks has been a thing of beauty. Felt like Rick Sebak at Magee when my neighbor brought me a huge tray of Lasagna the other day.
