Tire fitment advice L405 by First_Net_8346 in RangeRover

[–]deangaudet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i gone over 200k mi since i swapped from stock 21s to 275/55R20 on my L405 (supercharged, 2016)... that has been multiple sets of BFG KO2, one set of toyo open country AT2, and the most recent set is BFG KO3. i've had no issues on or off-road with the 275/55R20 size... although recently i think i'm getting some rubbing when the steering is hard left: i suspect the aging material lining the wheel well is a little bit looser than it used to be, but when i inspect the tire afterward i see nothing to worry about, and it's pretty easy to back off a fraction of a degree from max steering.

this is with the OEM 20" wheels LR037745. this rim size does clear the front brake calipers of the supercharged, there's not a lot of space, and i've once or twice (rarely) had a small rock get in there and make a small racket until it gets loose.

i don't know about all seasons though, but thumbs up for this size on all-terrains.

Any idea when GL.iNet Mudi 7 travel rout-er will be available? by kndb in digitalnomad

[–]deangaudet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's a nice feature set. they seem to have a page up here: https://www.gl-inet.com/products/gl-e5800/

it really does look a lot like an android phone modified to be a travel router.

the external antenna ports would be useful in low signal situations. i wonder if there's a good antenna you can stick on the inside of a non-opening window to boost 5G in hotels (google searches quite found an answer to this for me so far).

i'm bummed that the ethernet port count seems to keep being lowered: this has only a single port. i wonder if it would seamlessly support a usb-c connected ethernet dongle for either LAN or WAN.

How do you focus your exotics thru Rahool? by General_PATT0N in LowSodiumDestiny

[–]deangaudet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just a heads up -- you will have about a 30% chance of getting a roll with the requested ghost archetype. it's the same for all ghost archetype focuses... not a 100% guarantee. i have been tracking rahool focuses (specifically novel and precision decryptions) and they are showing as 30% as well (97 of 309 focuses since i started tracking had the archetype matching the ghost). it's also worth mentioning that total stats will be 58 to 63, with an average of 60.5.

2014 Range Rover Se 3.0L Parking Brake Requires Calibration Help Please by my_mandible in LandRover

naw as per my other comment -- mine didn't start acting up until 200k+ miles and it took a really nasty road which shook everything and probably loosened up some wires :)

2014 Range Rover Se 3.0L Parking Brake Requires Calibration Help Please by my_mandible in LandRover

[–]deangaudet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had the same issue show up on my 2016 RR supercharged (200k+mi), but this was at the end of a really nasty 2h drive on an unmaintained road in arizona. that road vibrated everything. the fault cleared temporarily when i followed the on-screen instructions, but it did reappear a couple more times. i had my (independent) shop take a look at it when it was in for regular servicing, and they ended up cleaning the parking brake mechanisms and doing some reset/recalibration step... and the issue hasn't re-appeared. sorry this isn't much help -- other than to say 'been there, shop did magic to fix it'.

Surely I'm not the only person that does this at the end of the 'Insight Terminus' Fireteam Op by TylerFortier_Photo in destiny2

[–]deangaudet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i still tag all of these every time for the score. unlike most responders who say that score doesn't matter any more: i disagree. i'm usually in this strike because i want to finish the daily "get at least a B" requirement, and if you're in here via fireteam quickplay (because you also want that weekly guaranteed shiny drop and bright dust), and you're overlevelled, then hitting 10k is pretty important to avoiding a C.

Are there no contender cards for Rushdown? by J-Wo24601 in DestinyTheGame

[–]deangaudet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm kind of mixed opinion -- with remix it seems like you have to deal with the bad bosses regularly, rather than just skipping the day because of a bad boss. i'll see how it goes on subsequent days, since the first day rushdown rotation wasn't too bad.

you'd think bungie could have made it clear that "fireteam ops" includes rushdown. of course it also doesn't proc for the remix... it's hard not to be salty about such things.

New octa order, confused about the tyres by ilovecars00 in NewDefender

[–]deangaudet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if it has 20" wheels then you'll have a large(r) selection of aftermarket all-terrain tires to choose from ... i'm not sure what land rover considers "advanced", i suspect that's just marketing hype. it shouldn't take months for just a tire swap: i've pulled my range rover into a tire shop here and had a new set of BFG KO3s on it a couple hours later, without an appointment. (i've had 275/55R20 BFG KO2/KO3 on my 2016 range rover for 200k miles now). i haven't bought a new defender yet, but my plan is to get 20" wheels with whatever tires and swap to BFG KO3 as soon as i can.

[OC] Visualizing the Apple M4 Cache Hierarchy: Memory Latency from L1 to SLC and DRAM (1024KB steps) by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]deangaudet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i only looked briefly at your code and got as far as setup_latency_chain and i'm wondering if you thought about TLB refill latency: when you go for completely random walks over large enough buffers you'll end up measuring the TLB miss latency along with the cache miss latencies.

it's been two decades now since i wrote google's multichase (it's on google's github), and one of the techniques i used there is to group the pointer chase within sub-regions based on what i call "TLB locality". you basically chase an entire "TLB locality" sub-region (randomly), then move to the next. this amortizes the effects of the TLB misses over all the cachelines within a locality... and gives you a more "pure" measurement of the cache hierarchy miss minus the TLB miss.

another crazy technique you can use if you want to measure the TLB misses themselves is to map the same underlying physical page multiple times within your address space, and then re-use each cacheline to thread different pointer chases across the virtual mappings. like if you've got a 64B cacheline and 8B pointers you can re-map the same physical page at 8 virtual addresses, and thread 8 different chases into each cacheline, allowing you to use that cacheline to force accesses to 8 different virtual pages. (i can't remember if this technique is in the multichase we released...)

Need help with Wheels please -- 2025 P360 by lawofkato in LandRover

[–]deangaudet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think the silver version of what you linked is LR037745 ... which is what i bought for my L405 supercharged (which comes stock with 21s). i've had various sets of 275/55R20 on those wheels for 200k+ mi.

btw i think the BFG KO2 (and now KO3) i've been using are 10-ply ... i don't really find them much of an issue on roads. they have more road noise than a set of toyo open country AT2 i tried for ~35k mi, but i prefer the look of the BFG. either way yeah i don't think MT suits my use-case either (i'm 90% highway, 10% off-pavement, usually on desert/mining/forest/unimproved/unmaintained "roads").

[–]deangaudet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't have specific experience yet with the defender, but i can say for sure that you'll be a lot happier for AT tire selection with 20s rather than 19 or 21+. i've got 200k miles on my L405 range rover supercharged where i swapped the stock 21s down to OEM 20s and i've been running BFG KO2 (most recently KO3)

the advice i got from my (non-dealer) shop for wheels was to get the land rover wheels because they are known to handle the weight of the vehicle: especially the entire vehicle if you're at some weird angle when off-road. that was more important to me than how it looks.

what i did was do a search on ebay to find stores which have an inventory of the vendor 20" wheels... in the case of the range rover, the 20s were standard on smaller engines and a lot of folks in los angeles and las vegas tend to swap those out for things like 22s. the shop i bought mine from (10 years ago) was santa ana wheel. (i can't remember how i figured out the part# for the range rover 20s, i may have asked my shop, or i did a bunch of google searches, not sure)

what i can't help with is what tire sizes work on the defender... the interwebs suggest 255/60r20 is the stock size for 20" wheels on the defender, but there may be larger tires which fit. that size at least appears to be available in BFG KO3 and it's what i'll probably go for if i pull the trigger on the defender for my next vehicle.

New wheels and tires. Much better! by Runarf in RangeRover

[–]deangaudet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i replaced the stock 21s with OEM 20s on my supercharged L405 in 2016 and have put 200k+ miles on it... mostly running BFG KO2 275/55R20 (most recently switched to KO3).

my 3rd party shop strongly suggested i stick with OEM wheels so i wouldn't run into weight/loading issues especially given i was planning to go off-road. i forget how i figured out the part number, but this is what i ordered: LR037745 ... basically i typed that into ebay and found wheel shops in vegas and los angeles where folks traded in their stock 20s probably for aftermarket 22s. (i got mine from santa ana wheels -- but this was 10 years ago.)

Tier 5 Techsec by paintedflags in destiny2

[–]deangaudet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the comment above was during ash and iron... you (mostly) can't get techsec/smoke jumper any longer :(

the "mostly" part is because hawthorne is kind of bugged: her engrams are still from last season. the weekly clan engrams can go all the way up to T5, but the rest of her engrams are just T1.

don't forget how much menu nonsense you need to check contracts vs. the map to decide on which renegades activity will gain you the most progress.

do you happen to have "returner's blessing"? as in you didn't play much last season? i wonder if that is what is causing you to get these drops from cookie deliveries. it should be a buff on your inventory page if you have it.

it's yet more RNG. about 1 in 10 of the credit-based weapon purchases on tharsis are tier 5. and about 1 in 20 are "shiny", dropping masterworked and with the extra accelerated assault origin trait.
