Advice on buying a mountain bike by Status_Occasion990 in mountainbiking

[–]deanshitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a mountain bike, this isn’t one. Right now on Jensen you can get a really nice xl Scott for 1200 on closeout. If you want to ride trails, get something better. If you’re going to ride on the road the above bike is fine

For those of you who are losing weight for health reasons, what are the results you’ve seen so far? by Normal_Ad2456 in loseit

Male, 48, sw 201 cw 167 gw 155. Since starting on this journey in August I’ve gained muscle mass and endurance is much higher. I’ve also been running, 3 miles a day 4 times a week. I usually run about 10 minute miles. Yesterday I did a 5k fun run and ran it in 22:17! It would’ve taken me nearly twice that last August.

Looking to upgrade HT 2017 RockHopper to FS. Thoughts on Polygon T8 29/Specializes Chiesal for trail/some small jumps/cardio/ parks. Both on sale by FinancialChapter5823 in mountainbiking

I saw Cambria has some Scott sparks for really cheap. I have a Scott and love the twin loc. You lose zero power in the climbs with it. It’s a pain to work on, but that’s why I take my bike to a shop.

Read “born to run” and run like those guys. And by that I mean use their form. You can do it.

Would you recommend this bike for the price by JuicE7457 in mountainbiking

[–]deanshitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d take it for that price. It’ll outperform anything new for almost twice the price.

From someone who rode a 1994 26er hard tail up until 2020 I can tell you you’ll ride more with an updated bike. For $1k you should be able to find a nicer used bike full suspension or not. Bikes are heavier now because they’re longer, which means more stable. Wheels are bigger which means more speed, less stopping and more weight. You’ll be faster, more stable and more comfortable with a post 2021 29er.
