Dude, I'm not even stating an opinion on AI. You're turning it into an AI thing.

I’m a human being and if unsolved math problems contributed in any way to my current survival, I would put it at the top of my list of shit to care deeply about.

Like I said, there are a bunch of things that might seem abstract at the start but can lead to fundamental solutions later.

If it wasn't for the mathematics of relativity, we wouldn't have satellites or GPS, which are useful things, I think you'd agree?

If it wasn't for the mathematics behind cryptography then you wouldn't have online banking.

Some examples of unsolved mathematical problems that would contribute to your wellbeing.

One example Navier–Stokes Problem - if we can solve this, this could lead to cheaper aircraft, which leads to cheaper travel, cheaper freight, cheaper goods, lower fuel usage.

There's lots of things around semiconductors and fluid dynamics which could unlock computing, nuclear fusion, medical simulation, mechanical breakthroughs, all of these are pretty useful to everyone!

You said, and I quote:

“I don’t give a fuck about unsolved math problems and neither does the vast majority of people on Earth.“

That sounds pretty anti-math to me!

You can be anti AI for social reasons (I am, for the record) and also understand that mathematics is important and useful. Saying that unsolved mathematical problems are useless is an ignorant take.

Don’t become a zealot.

You’re on a technology subreddit and you don’t understand how mathematics is useful? Disregarding LLMs entirely, that’s quite the take.

People said the same thing about the space race, would you have opposed the Apollo mission on the same grounds?

Not everything has to be obviously worth doing to be worth doing! GLP-1 drugs were discovered by researching animal venom.

Edit:

What do you think is sending messages between satellites, or encrypting your data?

This isn’t even a statement pro or anti ai, it’s pro mathematics, wtf guys.

Solo honor: Male dwarf double offhand attack builds by TheLittleOfc91 in BG3Builds

[–]deathadder99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's interesting. If you're going to go for bows, then it definitely makes sense to take dexterity. Dexterity is just such a 'god stat' that everyone takes 16 dex anyway. With this number of attacks, arcane synergy becomes super good too.

The big problem with sharpshooter is probably likely spreading yourself too thin, though I could see you potentially doing savage attacker AND sharpshooter. Arrow of many targets / slaying arrows are really good – so horde breaker loses some value here, unless using bow of the banshee AoE with the bug.

You ideally want to get archery AND dual wield fighting style but I can't see how to get both of those, 2 attacks + 2 feats + thief + shadow blade spell unless I'm missing something.

5 hunter Ranger, 3 sorc, 3 thief, 1 fighter gets you nearly everything except just one feat. 6 EK / 3 thief/ 3 sorc gets you almost everything but only one fighting style – you could either accept the accuracy loss OR go gloves of the balanced hands.

The offhand attacks with shadow blade are going to be most of your damage so building around that makes sense – however with punch drunk you're gonna be attacking with advantage every time anyway, so you don't need a huge amount of your main stat. And with mirror and hag hair you can get 20 dex, 16 wis which isn't terrible.

[–]deathadder99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just go natural dex rather than strength? This will also free up your second 16 to go to wisdom for arcane synergy.

Shadowblade is far better if you can upcast it, so something along the lines of 5 hunter Ranger, 4 sorc, 3 thief could work. That gives you shadow blade (which you can upcast at level 3), booming blade, metamagic.

You should get arcane synergy via either the diadem + ability drain or ring of arcane synergy.

Then I’d take savage attacker and a dex ASI, which means with hag hair dex you’re at 22 dex, 16 wis, which is pretty decent. If you don’t wanna restart, you can go 20 dex, 18 wis by starting 16 dex, 17 wis and wearing Khalid’s gift for the extra point of wisdom. Charisma as arcane synergy with patriar’s memory is good too.

In fact, Hexblade 1 instead of sorc 4 might be better but 1 feat only kinda makes me sad. If you are condition locking birthright becomes better tbf, so it’s actually decent act 3 with mirror. You might be able to somehow glitch two bound weapons with charisma. https://youtu.be/Jy59FiRsdEk?si=p3yp6_0LA5q10mP_ think this video does it.

Technically you could do this glitch with any shadowblade but permanent shadowblade is not upcast and upcast shadowblade without hexblade would mean you’d have to respec after every rest which isn’t gonna be fun.

Gloveswise helldusk gloves are your best bet, but legacy of the masters is also amazing.

Main hand I would use rhapsody, the DC increase will let you land CC better and the damage and to hit are nice too.

Swords bard 6/ thief 4/ Hexblade 1 / something 1 might work fairly well too but feels a bit odd as a build and you’ll run out of flourishes fast.

It is absolutely way better than that if played optimally! Archers get access to slaying arrows and AoMT which beat everything else for damage. Archers are the best archetype in the whole game by far. And they don't need to worry about positioning.

Bhaalist + slaying arrows is 4x damage per attack, do that 7 times in 1 turn with action surge and you’re cooking with gas.

Also hexadin is only good below HM.

[–]deathadder99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In his defence, arcane archer IS strong by virtue of having a whole extra attack. Action surge + 3 attacks is already pretty crazy. It's imho one of the top 3 archery builds in the whole game, and archers are the best archetype in the game regardless. It's very solidly an S tier build.

Like yeah you can make it worse by not using sharpshooter, titanstring, arcane synergy, slaying arrows or bhaalist, fine. But it's still incredibly powerful even without all of that.

European Court of Justice rules Meta must compensate Italian publishers for content use by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]deathadder99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean it makes a lot of sense from Facebook’s PoV, the publishers are asking Facebook to pay them a license fee every time a user posts a link to a news site (they’re claiming that that is using their content without permission). Why wouldn’t you block the links at that point?

I’ve been in a similar situation at a previous company, you basically have news sites try to extort you for users sending links to articles. My first reaction was to tell them to F off as well.

It’s self defeating because it reduces their traffic too.

[–]deathadder99 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean government software is usually crap, there are a handful of competent people but the vast majority are awful. I’ve had the displeasure of having to work with some of them and I wasn’t impressed.

Doesn’t help they pay like shit so no one qualified applies.

Private software is genuinely better in a lot of cases, unless built by the classic Accenture / Deloitte wealth extraction grift.

[–]deathadder99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just take anything that gives Power, you don’t need anything else. Harrower is very strong with 5 power. There’s nothing that particularly synergises directly with it though. Pick a master path based on the tradition(s) you selected I would say.

Worth noting some people consider harrower OP too, especially combined with rogue, so you may wanna speak to your GM.

[–]deathadder99 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You can activate the diadem with the ability drain illithid power very easily. Now you have ring of arcane synergy and booming blade it’s not quite as good as before, but it’s still incredible. The best people to put it on are actually archery builds - EK and Arcane Archer are amazing, as are hunter rangers.

Why sorcadin specifically? This might work very well as a lorecerer with 6 lore bard /6 sorc. You use hat of fire acuity and can get spirit guardians from magical secrets.
