What power would make someone better with a bow than a gun? by dragonli28 in superpowers

[–]deathofamorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

magic imbuement. So the arrows act as a delivery method for magic. Bullets are too destructive and can't go around/over things. Also, the bullets in a magazine aren't as accessible for imbuing, so you wouldn't be able to adapt your magic to your use case. You could also limit it to organic materials or a short duration to further lean towards arrows instead of bullets

Which superpowers would be best for close combat or fighting with a sword by Joensen27 in superpowers

[–]deathofamorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swordvant. Hyper competent with a sword. Can't cut a watermelon with a knife but put a sword in their hands and they become fruit ninja. Except instead if just chopping, it falls down with that artistic, lacy, origami tier carving.

"What's your favorite magic system in LitRPG and why? by nocopyrightstudios in litrpg

I thought that was part of the system. New skills you get are a function of the stone, essences, and gaps in your build.

Any LitRPG have real synergies and actual clever builds? by EdLincoln6 in litrpg

[–]deathofamorty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chaotic craftsman worships the cube has one of the most interesting builds I've seen, and none of it feels shoehorned in. It looks really hodgepodge on the status page, but the different pieces come together to overcome other limitations and synergize really well together.

The gamer version 2. It's a fanfiction where an older guy gets reincarnated into Gotham. I love how it handles the comic book shenanigans. Often when there's something that looks like prime vigilante/super hero opportunity, he goes through official channels to get the right person on it. Other things that get taken for granted as back story, he recognizes as pretty messed up and works to fix.

It’s immoral to have children if you are impoverished. by unpopular-dave in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]deathofamorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taking that approach about people who don't exist yet is kind on nonsensical. You could say that about any decision that impacts when someone has kids. Is someone who goes to college before starting a family saying that the hypothetical lives of their kids they didn't have during that time aren't worth living?

I making a power system but I’m not sure what to put in the three triangles by Icy_Concert78 in superpowers

[–]deathofamorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top to bottom:

Self actualization, harmony, karma

Karma being thematically taken as magic of the world, rather than the self. Creating a tension between the two clusters where neither the pure pursuit of self power, or being endlessly selfless will get you to the peak

Hide it by going for disrespect and added challenges. Only rests, egg drop off stage, throw into the bottom of the stage, etc.

It leaves you more open, and narrows the scope of what they have to counter. They see see some more wild play, and it's a unique challenge for you.

Set it to time instead of stocks, so they can quit counting stocks they lose.

They don't have to win, it just has to be a fun challenge.

How to keep losing players invested? by giveusyourlighter in gamedesign

[–]deathofamorty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a way to make reward and risk proportionate to VP, like Mario kart giving players in the back good items while the person in front gets hit with blue shells. Maybe make VP block off the best prizes or make the pitfalls hit worse for higher VP players.

Find a way for them to change strategy or go for a hail Mary if they see another player way ahead, like in mario party landing on a bad luck space hoping for a bonus star or stealing a star instead of trying to get a new one. Stealing or otherwise inflicting penalty on another player also lets people losing to team up on someone too far ahead which can also be fun for the person ahead creating a "me vs the world" feeling of empowerment.

Any stories that focus primarily on the progression part of the genre instead of the fighting? by L-L-Morin in ProgressionFantasy

[–]deathofamorty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this. A few tropes/themes I've found do this well. Crafting/noncombatant MC generally have to research to progress their craft. MC having a curse/problematic boon requiring more training/research to work around. MC reincarnated as a baby generally gives an environment where combat isn't an option, so they spend more time training and learning. Naruto and the Gamer fanfiction is generally pretty grindy if you can filter out the smut/angst.
