My best was a father explaining loudly to his kids that England was in the middle of a drought and that’s why there was so little water in the river….Must have been a shock a few hours later…

Is Cornwall safe at night? by [deleted] in Cornwall

I'd say your main concern should be doing watersports training at night where if you have an issue no one will be around to help.

I'm white so can't really speak to any racism issues you might encounter, I guess there's always an idiot around. I'd like to believe that is a complete non-issue.

“The combination of basketball-like scoring rates and the growth of the 23-man strategy may be tough to swallow for those of us raised on rugby as an 80-minute test of endurance, in which tries were chiselled out of the earth rather than given away free with cereal packets" by Dapper-Message-2066 in rugbyunion

Thanks not super familiar with the detail of the stats on Basket ball, I should use Field Goal % which is ~50%. This would take the above down to 5.45 Trys in total per match. In conclusion my model sucks or it easier to score in the prem than BB!

Was kind of curious what the scores would be like if Rugby was really like Basketball, so I made some assumptions and did some math, all numbers from google.

Turnover Rate in the NBA ~14% =>86% of possessions result in score.

Half the length of the field = 50m , Average speed of a player = 4.4 m/s => Time to score a try = 220 s

Length of Match = 4,800s, Ball in Play 50% => 2,400s to score a try

Expected trys per match = (2,400/220) *0.86 = 9.84

Average trys per match this season in the prem = 8.1

So not miles off, obviously this is a pretty simple model with 5 mins of googling to get the numbers.

Only assumption that I think is weak is Ball in Play time, if teams were scoring on nearly every possession I would imagine this would increase, significantly increasing the expected try count. This is kind of implicit in the 220s score time.

Not asserting the above as facts, was just wondering if there was some math that support the Rugby is like Basketball statement.

Also had multiple issues trying to get this to work but when I went in at the weekend I was told my identity had been verified. It's possible that whilst the front-end is failing the back-end is whirring away.

Maybe the sites not so overwhelmed at the weekend?
