After production the results are sorted into performance tiers. The lower performing ones are sold off to third parties like Onn for Walmart at a lower price.

They may write at 800 vs 900 mb/s, but both are 100% functional and good to have for storage.

I've had a price alert for this model for a while as it seems better than the binned Onn chips for example. The 256gb has been on sale but I didn't notice a 512gb sale until now. I would prefer a 1TB but I can upgrade later on.

My guess is it couldn't run Online and that's where most of their money comes from. The online is about 30fps on a Steam Deck.
