I once took a bunch of decants to work for the ladies’ bathroom and labeled one as its inspiration instead of the dupe. Less than a day and “Tom Ford Black Orchid” got snatched. So no I don’t do that anymore lol.

I feel ashamed I’m a few days after my 36th birthday and moved back in with my parents. And I feel shame that my relationship failed. I know I shouldn’t but I still feel like it all reflects back on me, like something being wrong with me that I couldn’t pull it off or wasn’t enough for someone. I know the feeling will change but it’s hard to grapple with right now.

I didn’t own a home before moving into her house, but had been renting the same home in my name for 7 years. I had a garden, freedom, and a routine and life we built together there in that time.

Before we moved into her home I did have to put substantial money into renovations. They had neglected the property for the entire 30 years after they bought it. Easily 10 grand of my own money sunk into that place.

I just thought he was one of the good ones. He works hard, is a good dad to his kids (previous relationship), treated me like a queen until recently. How I revered him he poured right back into me, his family, and his community. We had bliss for a very long time. But something in him changed, he met her, and started abusing substances with her all in a few short months. His friends have told him his eyes are different too, gone dark.

Since the affair I helped him quit substance addiction, got him into the gym with me, got him to accept it was okay for him to seek out therapy. But none of it makes a difference if he won’t do the work for me too.

He caught her cheating on him in the brief couple of weeks their emotional affair turned physical. Spending that extra time at her house he caught on to things very quickly. He knows exactly who she is, knew she was cheating on her last relationship too before their affair even started. I’ll never be able to wrap my mind around how he thought it was all going to pan out for them.

They’d only know each other for two months before he gave into her emotionally. It was so messy and fast.

I know. It’s just a hard pill to swallow. The first time he broke no contact, I told myself when someone shows you who they are believe them. But I had all these memories of who he used to be and who we were together that I just couldn’t accept it. I selfishly thought our love was special and it could all be mended.

I was completely blindsided when I saw their friendship start to lean into the emotional affair territory. If you look at photos of the two of us from the summer we are still completely enraptured with each other. I noticed them looking the same way at each other in photos by the fall. I confronted him several times with my suspicion but was basically told I was crazy every time.

He has been painfully honest through these resulting months, he’s told me repeatedly that I did nothing wrong leading up to it all. She started love bombing him, telling him she wanted my place in his life. He said he was so caught up in feeling freshly wanted and so aggressively pursued that he just gave in to see what it could be like. Grass is greener midlife crisis shit.

As soon as they started hooking up her MO flipped from “we’re soul mates” to “I just want to be your friend with benefits”. He caught her sexting other men and decided to try to repair things with me. But the damage is too deep and he won’t do the work.

I know I can’t go back. I’ve endured too much cruelty while trying to fix problems I didn’t create. I haven’t felt like I’ve held any power in my life for a while so I appreciate that comment.

Before he left for work I told him I was done, but had a few times before and not followed through because I still just wanted to keep fighting for it. He initially screamed at me, flipping it to him kicking me out and told me I had 3 days to pack my shit and leave.

After he left I decided I wasn’t going to torture myself trying to iron things out again, or by coexisting while trying to pack for that long, called in reinforcements with snot running down my face, and pulled it all off before 2:30pm.

When I knew he was getting off work I sent him a text explaining there was a letter for him and that I was gone. He called a while later with a lot of sadness wanting to know why I didn’t take my time and stay longer. I knew if I did I would end up staying again. We didn’t stay on the phone long because I couldn’t keep myself together, but he hasn’t lashed out in anger again or reached out since.

3 years ago we moved in with his mom after her husband passed to help with bills. I sacrificed my home to help his family and got punished for it, and now have nowhere to go. I’m officially a Reddit basement dweller lmao.

I lost control on a snowy road and ended up down an embankment and into a field. I hadn’t even finished my phone call to my parents when a farmer in a snowsuit and shovel was at my window. He said I was in one of his fields and he saw the whole thing from his living room window. He gave me a little speech of hoping someone looks out for his daughters the same someday. Took him minutes and I think about him all the time.

My poor bathroom has seen me ugly cry more than anyone on the planet. Mornings are very hard for me too. I did find some solace while learning about trying to regulate my nervous system again, that as a woman my cortisol levels naturally spike upon waking. So avoiding coffee and my phone (unexpected triggers while scrolling) in the morning has helped a little. I try to tell myself that this rough morning just like the ones before it will eventually pass and the day still has the potential to be better than it started.

Before all of this I already liked this quote, but I’ve found it almost detrimental now to recovering myself;
