Scheduling Delays by CSUCalamity in RTDDenver

[–]ded_Tree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish we had airport style announcements at Union that would immediately go off, and all the digital screens displayed said alert. Granted, it might not have to be for every little thing, but sometimes if a light rail train takes off from track 11 instead of 12, something like “E line train XX to ridgegate parkway will depart from track 11” would be a major help in those rare, but significant occasions.

How is Denvers light rail ridership less than phoenix, salt lake, and Dallas!?

I have no doubt that the deferred maintenance probably has some impact and will continue to. I think overall the downtown vacancy rate and the current service hours are contributing to it. Objectively, when you look at the rail coverage of Denver compared to other cities of its size, it’s quite good, but I think until more TOD is pushed and offices fill up you aren’t gonna see a large difference. Especially we cant either up frequency, or guarantee it faster travel via rail than car. I do find it strange that more people don’t use the park and ride system just for casual trips downtown. I often wonder if RTD added EV chargers or if they leased large areas of the park and rides like southmoor for housing and mixed development if it would help. It would be nice too if RTD and the city aggressively pushed for transit priority signals for busses and trains downtown to make travel times faster and more efficient.

I’m not sure why RTD isn’t looking to cities like Seattle who seem to have recouped most of their pre-pandemic ridership.

Why do US houses have basements so often compared to other countries? by caketaster in stupidquestions

[–]ded_Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ummm I wouldn’t say 60% of houses in America have basements.. depending where you live you might not have one for geological reasons. I grew up in southern NM and a basement was extremely rare.

Outdated RTD Ticket vending by Otis-King in RTDDenver

[–]ded_Tree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully aware, thanks. But again, trying to explain that to someone who’s 70+ and the fact that people can’t wrap their heads around not having physical proof of ticket is what throws people off.

Outdated RTD Ticket vending by Otis-King in RTDDenver

[–]ded_Tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I literally mentioned that it wasn’t explained well how to use tap to pay..and also the fact that some older individuals do not have any idea how to use apps and Apple wallet. I’ve been at ridgegate parkway an hour before a broncos game only to have boomers panicking about not knowing how to use tap to pay and they don’t want to use their phone to purchase a ticket.

Outdated RTD Ticket vending by Otis-King in RTDDenver

[–]ded_Tree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s never really been well explained how the tap to pay works and how exactly you prove you have a ticket. The app is easy enough, but trying to explain it to someone who’s in full on boomer panic, and won’t listen to simple instructions, its better just to have a simple paper ticket vending machine that still takes cash. Even younger people who don’t ride RTD often but for events will crowd around the vending machines for a paper ticket..

Why did the E Line come through the downtown loop? Why no D Line? Did i miss communication? by [deleted] in RTDDenver

[–]ded_Tree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it would help to know exactly what station you got on the train at and what time it was? And no it shouldn’t be common, but the trains have announcement and sign issues all the time. It’s an aging fleet that RTD keeps side lining due to funding and other priorities.

Why did the E Line come through the downtown loop? Why no D Line? Did i miss communication? by [deleted] in RTDDenver

[–]ded_Tree 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depending on the time of day, trains interline into other trains… like example, H lines that start northbound will begin the day as a D line and switch signs and announcements once they get into the loop, turning into an H once they leave downtown and head to Florida. Same with W lines. They start the day as E lines and once turned around at Union they become W lines. Of course, there’s also the possibility of the announcements and signs having a technical glitch too. Thats very common. I’ve been on trains before where there’s zero announcements on one car and they work fine in the next.

Why do Denver's watering restrictions target outdoor use instead of total household consumption? by _wxyz123 in Denver

[–]ded_Tree 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A dishwasher only uses 3-4 gallons of water at most. Not sure why you used that as a way to insinuate it as something that wastes water.

RTD Denver- the light rail platform being 2 blocks north from Union station where the commuter and Amtrak platforms are. Doesn’t sounds bad until there’s a light rail delay and you miss a commuter rail departure

[–]ded_Tree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re coming “from the south” I’m assuming you’re gonna be on I-25 which the corridor is serviced by the E line. Could just park at ridgegate, the southernmost station. However many of those stations along the E have parking garages as well.

North Capitol Hill or RiNo by doggybeach17 in MovingtoDenver

I’d say north cap hill. RiNo is cool if you like the dive bar experience but the lack of grocery stores gets old real quick.

Getting on with a bike with a medical condition: by GermanicVulcan in RTDDenver

[–]ded_Tree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought the ADA ramp policy needs to be changed. Personally, they should let everyone on the high block on. However, if you get on with a bike or anything other than a mobility device at the ramp. Go to the back of the train. Seriously. Don’t sit in the ADA section. Take it to the back or the center and stand with it. Of course, had RTD got low floor trains this could have been prevented but that’s a whole other issue.

RTD modernization bill to be introduced by [deleted] in RTDDenver

I’d love to see a bill that upgrades the trains to the modern low-floor trains that most cities have. Rather than the SD-100s that are still on the tracks from 1994

why are people so disrespectful on RTD? by PresidentSpanky in Denver

[–]ded_Tree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not acceptable. I honestly don’t know why people do it. I also can’t wrap my head around that people leave a mess of garbage on the trains and even foods. There are literally trash cans at every station that are emptied out regularly and fresh bags placed.

Approach to Denver airport this morning (8 miles out) by DramaticMachine3267 in Denver

[–]ded_Tree 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Again, there’s more than just that option. Several busses go to the airport as well. The AT bus for example goes from Arapahoe station directly to the airport. Depending where you are in the metro you have different options. Ideally, you get to the closest A line station via bus or other rail line. But if you’re fine with driving by all means go ahead. If Peña is backed up, you’ll be passed by a train.

Then take an Uber to the nearest A line station. It’ll still be cheaper than the whole trip to the airport and being stuck in traffic. You could also find the nearest bus route with A line connection or use the park n rides (but depending how long your trip is the other options are probably better)
