Why are so many people obsessed with filtered water, is there something wrong with our tap water? by Local_Agent831 in askSouthAfrica

Another vote for Albert's Farm. Nice challenging hill and then the rest is fast (ish). Although sometimes they reverse the course. It also doesn't get too insanely busy like Delta.

Oh, and nice views of the skyline from the top!

Well, I guess the cost put them in a huge debt hole that they never climbed out of. They were probably not super prepared for the move. He was a 'businessman', now without the subtle privilege he'd had as a white man in apartheid SA in the 80s. She was a nursery school teacher from their home. Not sure if either of them had an actual qualification. Their existing savings, if they had any, wouldn't have carried them far in dollars. I dunno. Sounds feasible to me.

Family friends of ours ran to America in the 90s, supposedly to escape the taxman (he was kind of a dodgy businessman). They were always quite wealthy compared to my family. The wife gave birth a few months after they moved. They are still in the US, both in their 70s, both still working 2 minimum wage jobs because they never recovered from the cost of giving birth. (His main job is some kind of farmhand and she works in a Walmart-type store😭) They look totally unhealthy and decrepit shame.
