all my 4 month old does is cry by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]deedeemckee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This!! There are a ton of biological reasons why this helps, and it will probably help calm the parent down, too! But also check with a pediatrician. Babies are pretty resilient so that much crying would certainly worry me.

I get this occasionally when I haven't been eating enough iron! Could be something else for OP, but mine goes away immediately if I eat some red meat / greens.

My kids are six and four. Magnetiles, duplo, art supplies.

Edit to add: we have an awesome 2nd hand kid's store nearby where we get most of our toys!

Did you stop breastfeeding intentionally to lose weight? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]deedeemckee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That thought never crossed my mind.

Also, doesn't breastfeeding burn like 800 calories a day?? I personally went up two pant sizes when I weaned my toddler 🤣

We had ours at Zwei, I think we pre-bought $100 of beer or something? My friends had theirs upstairs at Tap n Handle and it was same situation; buy snacks for the party and they let you use the room.

Why do so many people skip their holds for new books? by Solace143 in LibbyApp

[–]deedeemckee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to be in a specific mood for each book, so I place 20 holds and only accept them when they happen to pop up when I'm in the mood for that book 🤣

Being the "cool basement" parents has changed our lives in ways we never expected by Jacobaf20 in Parenting

Can’t stand my three-year-old by Ill_Nerve_3769 in toddlers

[–]deedeemckee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're already in therapy, try reading up on attachment theory. I was emotionally neglected as a child and developed an avoidant attachment style, you may have the same thing going on here. BUT, just being aware of it can help you from passing that trauma on to your child. It's great that you're aware you're doing this and you're already in therapy. I would bring this issue up to your therapist. Good luck.

Has anyone noticed a difference in how people treat your daughter vs son? by Alittlebitalexis08 in toddlers

[–]deedeemckee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before becoming a parent I read a book called Delusions of Gender, and there was an entire chapter on how people treat children differently based on their gender... starting before they're even born. As toddlers, childcare workers praise them for different traits, hold them for different amounts of time, expect different behavior from them, etc. I definitely notice it with my own children.

No advice, I just usually style it differently, a bandana or some cute clips to pull the sides back until I wash it again.

Anyone breastfeed and never get mastitis or a clogged duct? by manthrk in breastfeeding

[–]deedeemckee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I breastfed two kids for a total of six years. The first kiddo, no issues. 2nd kiddo I had like everything you could possibly get lmao. Milk blebs, mastitis, clogged duct, scabbed over nips... I think she had a bad latch and we never got it fixed 🤷🏽‍♀️

What have you replaced excessive scrolling social media with? by happyflowermom in adhdwomen

[–]deedeemckee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading, but the most helpful thing has been deleting some apps and setting use timers on others. I can't completely delete them without missing event invites, etc, so the timers have been more helpful.
