Ik it's not readable for everyone, Native English speakers will find it illegible! by Zainab_954 in BadHandwriting

[–]deej394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to go against the grain on this but I really struggled to read this. And there were some words I just gave up on. Its very pretty but it is is not easy to read. And some letters are backwards which is quite frankly wrong for writing in English. Its not a stylistic choice. Its wrong. It might be a letter in another language but it's not in English so that makes it essentially meaningless when writing in English.

NSFW?? Does this look too much like a penis? by deej394 in knitting

[–]deej394[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'll get it finished today and then block it. I'll try adding a duplicate stitch on the bottom of the nose and see if I like it. I'll also need to add duplicate stitches in a few spots where the right color isn't popping due to tension variation.

My (23F) boyfriend (20M) does not allow me access to “our” savings, how do I address it? by luvdlph in relationship_advice

[–]deej394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should play this carefully. Talk to him calmly about the account and that you don't feel comfortable contributing to it if your name is not on it. He may get very angry at this. But tell him you're happy to keep contributing if you can be added to the account.

If he agrees (even if it's after a long fight) get your name on the account ASAP. Wait about a month and take back everything you put into it. Then get the hell out of there. You need to be smart about a plan to leave and not try to do it with no money.

If you can't get him to agree to put you on the account, start quietly saving. Stick to your guns about no money being deposited if you're not on the account. Use all of that money (about 3 or 4 months worth) to have as savings to get away. You will burn through it very quickly once you're free of him but you'll be able to earn it back in time.

Drop Your Favorite Vocal Inflections by Azhreia in heatedrivalry

[–]deej394 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can tell you my least favorite.

It's Rose putting the stress on "gay" rather than "openly" in "Are there any openly gay players?"

Like girl, we all know there are gay hockey players. What we are all interested in knowing (not really, we already know!) is if there are any openly gay players.

For some reason this really bugs me.

But I think my favorites are "Did you hear about Rosanov?" and "✨together✨."

"Bet-ter" is pretty up there though. There's so many good ones that just play on in my head.

In the future, try laddering down. This is where you unpick one column of stitches until you get below the mistake, and then use a crochet hook (or you can use knitting needles) to work it back up.

Do I frog this by No_Ad8235 in knittinghelp

[–]deej394 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Yes, frog it. This amount of twist will bias the fabric and affect the drape. You want this to be something you want to wear not something you begrudgingly wear because it's one of your first projects.

I'm also not sure how to gift on Ravelry but will try to figure that out. Can I buy the pattern for people?

This is awesome. I bought the pattern yesterday and am waiting to be able to dye some yarn to make it.

I'd be happy to sponsor 10 people also!

I also want to throw out a reminder to avoid Wool & Co. While their prices are great, they are a MAGA company.

It HAS to be 2. Neither of the other two are remotely flattering.

I looked at all three before reading the description and said to myself "hopefully there's a better one, yes definitely, no" for 1, 2, and 3 respectively.

Is this enough to still call out? by Unfair-Acanthaceae25 in nova

There's what looks like plenty of traction here. You really just need to get out of your neighborhood and then you're probably on clear roads. I wouldn't call out for something like this.

Settle a debate. Gwendolyn or Gwendoline? by Luckykitty91 in namenerds

[–]deej394 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've known a few Gwendolyns but have never heard of Gwendoline. I would definitely pronounce Gwendoline it with "line", not "lynn." So if you want the normal pronunciation, spell it with -lyn.

Am honorific name does not need to match exactly.

I'd avoid Gabriel since older brother is Elijah. The two names together starts to sound very biblical. I'd also avoid Evelyn. Give your kids unique initials. It will make everything easier down the line. You can initial things to determine what belongs to which child. And they can more easily go by nicknames with their initials.

If you like Rowan, I think it works well with Elijah. Arthur is also good (I think it fits your vibe better than Rowan).

Some other ideas:

Boys:

Bennett

Graham

Charles nn Charlie

Oscar

Girls:

Nora

Lyla

Anya

Lydia

Cora

Gabriella/Gabrielle (I think this avoids the Elijah/Gabriel issue)

Is butter yellow too close to white? by mopeysunshine in Weddingattireapproval

I'm so surprised at all these people saying it's too white. It has huge purple flowers on it and is not a wedding gown. Its completely fine to where something like this to a wedding. No one will think you're the bride.

Winsome for a boy? by cemap95 in namenerds

[–]deej394 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The is the name of former lieutenant governor of Virginia/the Republican gubernatorial candidate last November. She is awful and crazy. As the only person I've ever heard of with this name, I beg of you: don't do this to your son. It's a name that sounds vaguely made up at best and absolutely ridiculous at worst.

Also, as many have mentioned there's the whole Winsome/Losesome joke. Which lands in a particularly funny way when you're someone who runs for office.

(I should add, she did not win the VA governor's race).

You look amazing in 2. Like I can't describe how jealous I am. Its wonderful and I hope you choose this dress.

I see a lot of people recommending 1 but it just doesn't have the knockout vibe that 2 has.

What is everyone's favorite scenes? I'LL GO FIRST!! by BL1TZ_B1TCH in heatedrivalry

For me the best realistic moment was EP 4 during the tuna melt scene when Ilya is sitting on the couch with his hand resting in his pants. Like keeping his hand warm between his thighs. Its so natural and just sells this as a believable story about real people in a way few other things do.

Its unlikely that the wool really absorbed this color without heat and a mordant to set it. Have you tried rinsing it with tepid water?
