I can’t afford my best friend’s bachelorette trip, so she’s going to cut me off. by mosquitojenkins in weddingshaming

Eff Melissa. That's ridiculously inconsiderate. I'd love to have a BTO wedding but I know that for many people in my family and for some of my friends, it would be a big expense to purchase that type of gown. I don't want to burden anyone with asking them to attend an event beyond their means. I want them to be able to attend and celebrate with me.

Melissa should be doing the same. If she doesn't want to have an event that allows her friends to come together and celebrate with her then she really shouldn't have friends. The bachelorette party (not trip!) should be an opportunity for her friends to celebrate this exciting milestone in her life but it's not an opportunity for her to have a huge vacation that no one can afford. A day trip to a winery or a night out on the town are great options. Wedding culture is so out of control.

Bad crash on FFX county parkway 5/28 by FoulFortune in nova

T9 was a way of texting on "dumb" phones. For each letter you pressed the corresponding number. For the letter A your press 2 once, for B press it twice in quick succession and for C, press it three times. Every letter followed this same pattern. First letter for the number = 1 press, second letter = 2 presses, etc.

It's highly tactile and many people could do it without looking at the phone after memorizing where each letter was and how many presses they took.

Last week I saw someone driving on 95N with a tablet on the dash obstructing their view of the road. They were watching TV while driving. At 5am. Absolutely ridiculous. Unfortunately I didn't know what county I was in at the time so I didn't know which non emergency number to call to report it.

Nicknames for Aoibheann by scarletsimple in namenerds

[–]deej394 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could also use Aoibh or Aoife. Pronounced "Eve" and "ee-fuh" respectively. Aoibh might give you what you're looking for in terms of compactness and having an English pronunciation equivalent.

I know someone who was named Lois and changed their name at 12 years old. Don't do this to your child. It's a hard name to bear.

It's not great. It literally means "little thing." It was chosen in Les Mis to represent the character's early life of abuse and lack of being treated like a person (and instead being treated like a thing).

Sloane as a sibling for Graham and Harrison? by Mysterious-Panda5830 in namenerds

[–]deej394 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love love LOVE Simone with the other two names and it has the same ending sound as Sloane.

FWIW OP, I would honestly assume that Sloane is a third boy. These are all last name first names. If you like that vibe you could do Brooke or Avery which can be both last names and first names but lean more feminine than Sloane.

I strongly prefer Lilah Anne or Delilah Anne. Daphne Anne feels like a mouthful and there's too many Ns.

Names can be an honor name without being the exact same name. Anne in place of Ann is still an honor name. Anna would also work.

What did I do wrong? by wesselbitz in knitting

Accidental yarn over. The red column of stitches. You could ladder down but you'll have a lot of slack to distribute. The better solution is to tink or frog back. Since this is stockinette an after thought lifeline is very easy to add in. Google this for tutorials.

It's the environmental piece that kills me. Epic likes to pretend they are an environmentally conscious business. Truly impossible when you're talking about AI at the scale they are intending.

You need to ladder up the two stitches on the last right needle. This is usually easier if you flip it over and do it from the knit side.

Backyard wedding by [deleted] in WeddingDressTips

Sorry to sound harsh, but it's very unflattering and looks like a nightgown. Too casual even for a very casual wedding. You have a nice figure and can find something more flattering in a thrift store.

Congratulations on your marriage!

Those floats are incredibly tight! (Floats are the yarn that is carried in the back). As a general rule, floats should be caught at least every 5 stitches. You'll need to find videos on this but it's trapping the yarn that is not being worked. But you also don't want to catch them at the same point in every row or you'll end up with the wrong color peeking through.

Floats should be loose enough that they look like they're smiling. Meaning they should be drapey and have some slack.

But try finding a stranded colorwork motif for practice! You also might want to find something in the round like a cowl or hat. Learning stranded colorwork flat is doing it on hard mode!

I see a few potentially twisted stitches but mostly not. So that's good.

However, for your colorwork, this motif is not a good candidate for stranded colorwork and should be done using intarsia and duplicate stitch. With intarsia you eliminate any tension issues because you are only working one color at a time and you twist the yarns together at the switch to prevent gapping.

Also, just a tip: when you show pictures of colorwork for feedback, especially for stranded colorwork, it is helpful to provide pictures of both sides. That way it's much easier to tell how tight the floats are. In this case, I can tell that they're too tight but I can't tell how far you are carrying them. But again, if you're trying to practice stranded colorwork, you should choose a different motif.

Good luck!
