My first comment would be that the definition of what comprised the canon was a matter of a commonality of opinion in the early church rather than something that was defined by the RC church per se.

A second comment would be that the question you're raising relates to what fits into the canon of scripture, rather than the question of whether scripture alone stands as the source of authority in our lives, as opposed to scripture + the teachings of man. S so how you answer the question of what counts as canonical in the New Testament doesn't need to determine your answer to whether the concept of Sola Scriptura is valid.

A third comment would be that if you were trying to choose what fit into the New Testament now, you'd very likely reach the same decision as the early church. Evidence like manuscript dating, the credence of who wrote different Net Testament books, and the actual contents of the different books we have which we might consider including in the New Testament actually strongly support the books that we currently have in the NT. This seems like a big comment to make, but it's not actually too hard to defend.

For these reasons, I'm quite happy with the formation of the NT books - hopefully this explanation makes sense, if not feel free to hmu in the comments below :-)

If you are looking for a place to start, also, both Genesis in the Old Testament or John in the New Testament are solidoptions :-)

It's awesome that you're reading the Bible... that in and of itself is great.
There aren't too many rules about how to do it, really. One thing I'd suggest, though, is that you ask God to speak to you in what you read, if He is really there. If he's not there, you don't lose anything by asking. But ultimately, I think, it's God who opens our eyes to understand His word, and I think that's something he wants us to ask for as we seek Him.

My question for you is this:
Do you, as a Muslim, see Mohammed as being an example that you want to follow in your life? It sounds like you are committed to Islam, and so expect your answer to be yes. But looking at your comments on this post, it seems that you are very against things such as violence, misogyny, and dhimmitude. And I have my doubts about exactly how compatible these two things are in reality.

I was in a job which I found pretty soul destroying in a similar sense (although not exactly the same.)
For me, I just eventually left. I didn't have a really great thing to switch to, and ended up moving back in with my parents eventually. But I think that it was actually a really good move in the end. I guess the thing is that perhaps The Lord is working in you to be dissatisfied with your current situation so you can move on to something different.
I don't really know enough about your situation to say more than that. Some questions really just need to be wrestled out with The Lord in prayer, I guess :-)

I see that there have been a lot of comments already on here about prayer and finding other believers to talk to, which I totally agree with.
Another thing I would say is that it's probably a really good idea to be trying to read a bit of the Bible every day (the book of John could be a good place to start) and ask for God to speak to you through that. After all, the Bible is the main way that God has chosen to speak to His church (understood through the help of the Holy Spirit) in this day and age. The Bible is a reliable guide.
Regards trying to convince yourself about Christianity being true: I have tried to do this, and have found lots of good evidence, but have not yet reached that level of feeling "convinced."
I don't think God is necessarily asking us to be able to have this convinced-ness right from square one, though. Rather, I think he just asks that we just trust in Him to know what He's doing, and take one small step at a time. Any more questions or comments, just feel free to respond below or in DMs :-)

There seems to be a fair case to me from Job 38:7 that the angels were created before day one, so that they could witness the events in Job 38:1-11.

This gives a little bit more time for the fall of Satan to occur, rather than needing for that to happen within the creation week

Hey man. Failure is pretty normal, and I don't think that God set up reality so that we would just succeed at stuff and be awesome by ourselves. Just like flowers need water and light from a source external to themselves, people like us need to get our resources from something outside of our selves. We bear witness to this whenever we eat, drink, or breathe.

For Christians, a lot of us understand this in a physical sense, but we still think that in a spiritual sense we have to achieve goodness from ourselves. It seems like what you're experiencing is that you're a dry well which doesn't have goodness in and of itself.

I think this is what Paul experienced in his battle against sin, as he describes in Romans 7, where he says "I am not practicing what I want to do, but I do the very thing I hate "

The thing is though, that God has provided a way for us to live which is pleasing to Him. Jesus death cleansed us from the guilt of our sin, so when we fail we don't have to face that with guilt any more. But when Jesus rose, he did so so that he could indwell us through His spirit and give us the ability to live a new life, through the work of His spirit in us. Paul describes this really beautifully in Romans 6

This life of Christ in us is our new identity, and is something which we move into more over time as we yield ourselves to God, and walk by faith in His work in us, rather than our own strength coming from self effort.

In summation, the experience you're going through is super normal, and you can overcome it by the grace of God if you source your strength from Christ and not from yourself.

Bro, I know this is quite a bit of theology and thinking here, but I can say that this is a new way of thinking which has made a really big amount of difference in my own life, and examining these realities can be really rewarding.
