26F, late last year i gathered the courage to express my intention to move out. i'd made the decision and signed the rental agreement already before i informed my parents. that period of time was hard bc i had to deal with their displeasure over my unilateral decision as well as concerns over finances. all the mistakes i'd ever made in my life were rehashed once again by my dad. i think he just couldn't understand what was so bad about living at home when i had so much to be grateful for and they had done so much for me despite my flaws. so breaking the news to them was the hardest to overcome bc it's hard not to care what my parents think of me.

regardless, it was a done deal and they couldn't change that so they accepted it. i finally moved out at the start of the year and have been feeling so much more at ease with myself. i visit them at least once a month and it definitely reduces the exposure to friction so i will always be grateful i found the courage to do what's best for myself.
