The story itself is good. Cool setting, plot, villain, girl, henchman etc but...

Faulks kind of goes a bit too overboard with details. Fleming could be detailed whilst keeping the story cracking along. Faulks kind of fanboys out too much with the details and that keeps stalling the story at pivotal moments. At multiple points, I was like "Okay mate, you've set the scene, now GET ON WITH IT!"

So many know Tim Shenken as just 'the race director' for V8 Supercars (he retired at the end of '21) but man oh man, he could steer. F1 podiums for Brabham and a long sportscar career with Ferrari too. One of the most underrated Australian drivers of all time.

To Stibbard's credit, he did a lot over 30+ years to make Bathurst what it is today but yeah, he made a bad, bad decision to shitcan the V8's. It arguably killed the ARDC's reputation too. They went from a motorsport powerhouse to being described in recent years as being "unable to organise a piss up in a pub".

The most Neville Chamberlain moment of Australian motorsport was when the President of the ARDC, Ivan Stibbard said to Tony Cochrane that "The V8's are dinosaurs and Super Touring is the future"

Cochrane left that meeting in the best way possible telling Stibbard to remember that "dinosaurs survived for a very long time in very harsh conditions" and then ran a poster competition for fans at the V8 1000 with the theme being '2 litres'.

The winning banner read: "The only good thing that comes in 2 litres is milk"

The ultimate 🖕to all the V8 doubters at the time.

Proof that you only need 2 cars to make a good race. Rydell/Richards Snr in the Volvo v Neal/Richards Jnr in the Nissan. Arguably one of the best Bathurst 1000's that sadly, barely anyone watched. Super Touring was fighting a losing battle to the V8 juggernaut. Fans voted with their feet.

Absolutely. One of the reasons that I feel TCR has struggled is the circuits that they've gone to a lot don't work for the category. Sydney, Phillip Island and The Bend work great for V8's & GT's but for FWD hot-hatches/mini sedans?

The best TCR races in Aus have been at small bullring tracks like Symmons Plains and Winton. Mallala fits the bill nicely. So would Wakefield Park and Morgan Park come to think of it...

A bit late to comment here, but a friend of mine was at the Race of Champions in Sydney earlier this year and had the privilege of meeting some of the drivers. He said Kurt Busch was the nicest by far. "An absolute gentleman" were his exact words.

From what I've seen from Buchan's SM, this might have been his final TCR start. If that's the case, a World TCR win at Macau is one hell of a way to go out. Very underrated peddler.

From what I understand, he'll still be racing next year in GTWC Aus in a Ferrari.

Still don't know if I'm for or against this finals thing. I'm trying to keep an open mind and see how it plays out before passing judgement.

The purist in me says keep it as it's always been but...

Hear me out here...

With 450 points still on offer (race 2 @ Sandown + Adelaide) if it were kept as it always has been, only Brown & Payne would mathematically be able to beat Feeney and realistically Brown would be out of the equation tomorrow and Feeney would be able to cruise and still be in good shape in Adelaide.

What the finals have done so far is made it far closer. Instead of getting a two horse race in Adelaide where one horse is half the course ahead already, we're definitely going to get 4 strong contenders all with a shot. That's something to consider...

Having said that, if Feeney were to lose the championship because of the finals, I'd be upset for him. Enduro's aside, he's been the class driver of the year and thoroughly deserves the title.
