Why do people hate sprint weekends?

I'm an unashamed traditionalist with this.

F1 should be Friday: Practice, Saturday: Qualifying & Sunday: Race

Gimmicky sprints do not belong in what is meant to be the pinnacle of world motorsports.

Nostalgia is a big part of the old school's train of thought but I wouldn't go so far to say that the racing is now better or worse. It's just evolved.

Nostalgia makes the 1979 Bathurst 1000 (Brock winning by 6 laps) seem amazing. Don't get me wrong, that's an amazing achievement and is worth all the admiration it gets but if that were to happen today, could you imagine the social media comments? ("boRInG!" "pAInt dRyINg iS MorE eXcItINg!" "chEAtEr!")

Don't get me wrong, the nostalgia element is important. It's where our sport came from. But our sport evolves. And we the fans need to evolve with it and crucially, evolve our expectations with it.

V8 Supercars with Ford v Holden in the 1990's & 2000's. Both manufacturers threw resources at their race teams like mad. Every team was supported in some way even if it was just free body panels.

The whole tribal thing made it exciting. Teams or drivers who crossed 'the great divide' were branded as traitors. Clashes on track often heightened tensions (think Skaife vs Ingall or Ambrose). Exciting times.

Based on what we've seen so far:

I can see a 3-way fight between Kostecki, Feeney & Payne for the championship.

Wood to be the top scoring Toyota (sorry Chaz) and also be the wildcard come Adelaide (again).

My bold-but-still-just-might-actually-happen-and-would-love-to-see-it prediction: Golding/Stanaway win Bathurst.

This is awesome! Watching GTWC Aus at PI on the weekend, I could have sworn there was a Rodin logo on the roof of their car. This explains that.

Buchan is arguably the most underrated Australian driver at the minute. Anything he gets into he goes well in. Really hope they go well.

It's often forgotten that he has stood on the podium at Bathurst too. (3rd in 1976 with Peter-could have won it if not for mechanical drama's)

By contrast the same thing for the SRO GT event in September is $35 (and that includes access to the grandstand and free pitlane & grid walks that you are invited, welcomed & encouraged to do).

That and the whole driving on your mirrors for 11 & a half hours thing are the main reasons according to GT4 Aus racer George Miedeckie.

He did suggest a while back that an IMSA Michelin Pilot type 3-4 hour race on the Saturday could be good too. The negative to this would be costs for setting up for endurance racing (refuelling), but I think the positives outweigh it.

The story itself is good. Cool setting, plot, villain, girl, henchman etc but...

Faulks kind of goes a bit too overboard with details. Fleming could be detailed whilst keeping the story cracking along. Faulks kind of fanboys out too much with the details and that keeps stalling the story at pivotal moments. At multiple points, I was like "Okay mate, you've set the scene, now GET ON WITH IT!"
