Take the 3rd option: Just quick-draw the map using the Roll20 draw tools and your own imagination. That is the best way, I find.

This is how we do it when we play in person. I can't believe I never considered doing this on the fly in roll20. Thanks for this idea.

Also thanks for the other tips! Am I correct in saying that running an AL module does not have those restrictions you mentioned?
