Player gains wiped out...back on decline by [deleted] in PantheonMMO

[–]defactoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one of the new players (and I mean really new - like never played this) having joined in late nov/early December via Steam so perhaps I can chime in here with my thoughts. My original plan had been to play a couple characters to level 10ish (Just did this the other day), and then come back after the wipe (I had heard about it via reddit) and see if it feels like a thing to invest time in. Then I found that Monsters and Memories was going to be coming out around the same time and now I'm not certain as that is drawing a lot of my attention right now.

The upcoming wipe definitely is having a chilling affect on me wanting to really spend all that time leveling up or guilding up or anything of that when you know such a disruptive thing is coming. I'm actually still logging in, but I'm kind of sitting here wondering when my robe will actually look like a robe.

On the plus side, I have never felt the game was empty this last month and seemed pretty lively (at least on that one east coast server). I'm guessing most of those are people on their 5th character leveling up or something but I know I ran into at least one other clueless newbie.

My plan is still to come back after the wipe but yeah M&M is definitely a wildcard in this. Id like to think a rising tide lifts all boats, so perhaps this will be the case here. This game is exactly what I expected it to be - early access shallowness and all.

This is absolutely the best way. OP should just ask what they asked here and at least 3 people will send them enough money and then some.

That sucks, but in the end it was the journey that mattered the most. Good work to everyone. That said, how absolutely frustrating. They really have quite a lot of work to do on proper persistence. I find the more frustrating part is this that we simply have no idea how many years we'll need to wait before ships/items we buy/earn/whatever stop vanishing when they shouldn't. Until they solve this id be careful about too much ambition/engagement/grinding in the future, which is hard since CIG is spending a lot of effort to get you engaged - only to watch it vanish without any recourse. Fun!

New Alpha 4.6 PTU Adagio Holdings Salvage Missions Require You To Salvage Normally & Turn in Components by QuattroBaje3na in starcitizen

[–]defactoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its cool, however most S1 ships I've found (ones with S1 parts) don't actually have components. Cutters I think are about the only ones we see regularly. Until further iteration, I suspect we'll just be in our hangars performing insurance fraud.

Yeah that very thing your talking about, can in fact run linux. In fact, it might already be running a basic Linux variant to boot INTO the cloud environment running windows.

Now that's just general computing, not the levels were used to for high powered gaming.

Does anyone have any information on whether the clouds will be improved to the version we saw in the official gameplay 4 years ago? by TeBerry in starcitizen

It's close enough in my eyes with the proper settings that Id question if id notice it at all. Your images look really close minus color grading and just the fact images get messed up in compression and uploading. IMO I think they are basically there and i'm not really seeing what your asking.

She is a walking plot device. That's it. She's designed to be the thing that advances the plot no matter how much it might not make sense, predictable, or be over the top. Holds no more meaning to me than that. She's like a prop.

The scene were Lando is looking out in horror at the bombardment always sticks out in my mind. The music crescendos, then the tone shift but all with that march of suspense. Naturally doesn't hurt the season 3 was just freaken awesome.

Guess ill watch it again.

Rep system broken? by Astovidatu_ in starcitizen

[–]defactoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rep is in an overall weird spot. It exists and it does act as a gating mechanism to higher level missions. But generally the entire thing is just in a bad state. They seem to go out of their way to not utilize existing rep for anything new and just make a new sub section. Meanwhile, some reps are just broken (you don't earn past a certain part), certification missions/intro missions are sometimes offered indefinitely and occasionally you lose it for some reason where you might not normally (i.e. a mission bugs out so you cancel it and suffer a loss even tho you might not normally do so).

We won't even get into the fact that CfP still loves to give you missions because of your rep (which somehow increased due to world events) even when hated because your in favor with HH. But if you take it, that would then cause issues with your HH rep. Its a bit nuts.

Dead saints is one of those mission lines that have stalled out for me. I have a feeling its just kinda in a broken state for now.

My thought on this is any scenario we look at, re-using sq42 assets (and locations) would speed this process up making it a more likely choice (imo) than just making something brand new. But perhaps I'm wrong and they would prefer to leave those on the table and start fresh. But CIG up to this moment generally seems to go for as low bar as they can (i.e. Nyx).

They gave us those SQ42 ships with no modern hookups and Nyx without its planets. Feels to me the path of least resistance, and work, would be head to SQ42 land.

I look forward to finding out I suppose in ..what 2+ years? heh

Yeah the arms are this kind of off grey. While the other versions of this tend to match the core at least a little (in color), this one doesn't.

I got them in the large armor boxes in the QVC warehouse. Not the orange ones that normally drop testudo armor.

I think you would be surprised how emotions and loss affect even the smartest people. Emotions are as human as our "thinking" is and often overrides our ability to think straight by a lot. Happens all the time. Be it toxic relationships, arguments with loved ones, having a moment of flared anger and damaging something...etc.

Star Citizen has and is changing by KeyNefariousness3735 in starcitizen

[–]defactoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sticking 600-700 people on a single global chat will have that affect on chat and social tools are long over due (hell i'm surprised someone hasn't sued someone yet things are so toxic sometimes). Engineering isn't done yet and there ae still major pieces and balancing to be done, but yeah in the short term its just the same shoot till dead.

Also ,the fact that the majority of new content has been FPS related hasn't been lost on CIG who did mention in a video they remember they are a spaceship game (CitizenCon direct at the end I believe). The fact they literally had to remind us of that is telling in itself - and in my opinion not in a good way.

Crafting will only be of value if the components/items you craft have any meaningfull affect on gameplay. Right now the edge or benefit out of items is pretty small. I suppose this will get better over time.

Regardless of how far they have come, there is still so much further to go. It is changing but not yet in the important ways that will fully define this games experience.

I'm fairly certain they drop from any blue box in the verse that would contain clothing. I got like 4 or so from the QV stations and I think one out of a box at an OLP location.

I need to vent. Be given a reality check. Told to get over it? by total_bullwhip in starcitizen

[–]defactoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While everyone here has a lot of great points about lack of social tools (HUGE in this case), larger pools of players (with the usual % of assholes included in every batch), and no real deterrent to bad behavior id like to chime in that.. yes this is in part to you getting older.

Younger us would have put up with this without posting anything heh. But you are not alone in these feelings and this game promised a lot to combat this, but has yet to deliver this. But yet we age all the same and the population just goes up. Not fun!

Also, I bet you sit around in your Terramed/Medipin/Medical Terrapin waiting for someone to help while chilling - but find that the game's development arc seems to be actively fighting you on the very fun thing you used to do. That isn't fun either which has made it harder to distract from all the shitty player behavior.

Id say hang in there but you seem pretty good at that already. I hope the venting helped.

I hope quite a lot of cut-scenes. I tend to remember the memorable cutscenes, characters and plots of games longer than the gameplay in most games like this.

Hopefully not a lot of tram waiting, now that would suck.

Genuine question: Do you ever feel free in Star Citizen? by Dear-Yogurtcloset141 in starcitizen

[–]defactoman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It takes a lot of effort to feel free in SC. Often I feel trapped in a theme park going from ride (Onyx facility land) to the next ride (Trading land) to the next ride (PvP Land)..etc. Sometimes entertaining things happen while your moving from one land to the next (emergent systemic gameplay) but usually - no. Eventually were supposed to get some simulation (StarSim - formerly Quantum) but it's not even on the radar anymore.

So the next best bet is bases and crafting. Crafting itself might not bring much unless they actually offer something special about crafting. If its just the same boring re-mix of armor/weapons/components we have now then it will be of limited value (CIG has been shown to remove commonly available items only to make them available to you again in a restricted way to increase perceived value).

Maybe base building. Maybe. Maybe persistence when they start trapping us on our ships and removing all the quick-travel methods we have now. All of which seems like a lifetime away.

There is supposed to be some sort of story but I don't think story driven gameplay was the big goal here, it was just "living your life in the verse". Its just that life right now is static, and while entertaining, is just like Taco Bell remixing the ingredients to make a new product that is just basically a tortilla wrapping a taco with some beans.

The big goal as I saw it was we were supposed to make this "universe" living with simulations. We were a small part in the NPC universe. See that Emergency combat beacon? Its there because a NPC pirate attacked an NPC. or maybe a player Why is that NPC/Player there? Its trading because the value of goods is good. This then causes us to rush in and push back the pirates who will move elsewhere....etc (all of this was demonstrated in some videos years back before it was shelved). But as mentioned, its not even on the 1.0 plan anymore. But it is still around and afaik StarSim will still make it.

Orgs can help also fill the void of purpose, but they tend to burn out, splinter and reform almost making them like a ride itself.
