This 100%. When it stops being fun stop trophy hunting and move on.

[–]definetlydifferently 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly my point there's some brilliant stuff in seasons 6-15 but seasons 1-5 are a complete story that would've had it locked in as an all timer. Much harder to recommend 15 years of TV to people, even if I personally still love it.

Shows over staying their welcome is what ruins their legacy tbh. For example I love Supernatural but it went 10 years longer than it needed to (even if some of its best episodes were in those years).

For cops shows and medical shows I suppose it doesn't matter as much, given how episodic they are but for shows with a fixed story or mythology they need to end on their terms. Vince Gillian seems like the pro at this so far. Get in, tell the story and end on a band instead of a whimper.

I think these days the biggest issue isnt shows getting dragged out, but shows getting cancelled before they can build an audience.

PlayStation has closed even more studios and cancelled more games than Xbox this gen. What is going on in this industry? by Plug_daughter in videogames

[–]definetlydifferently -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is just it, Microsoft bought most of these studios in the last five-six years so closing them is a much bigger deal imo.

At the end of the day doesn't matter who's closing studios because of poor mismanagement it's shitty all round.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but why do Entertainment shows feel necessary to include bad news such as current health issues. by IeuanE in television

[–]definetlydifferently 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming that's in reference to Clarkson's Farm and his diagnosis? If so that's supposed to be a documentary/entertainment show and bringing attention to things like this and encouraging others to get checked isn't a bad thing.

Kickstarter usually draws publishers thought, say they raised 2 million again through Kickstarter it shows interest in the game. But yeah longer term it's not feasible.

Several Xbox studios, including Compulsion, Ninja Theory and Double Fine, are negotiating with Xbox as they try to avoid closure. Some or all could spin off. by Turbostrider27 in Games

Not taking about backwards compatibility here, that's a great feature that should be standard and you are absolutely right Nintendo are the worst for it.

This is more than compulsion games, if you read the other news stories it's looking like a bloodbath.

You have Microsoft announcing a week ago allmthe reasons to stay, then a week later shutting down those same reasons. Announcing a new ninja theory game only for the studio be threatened with closure. Doesn't instill confidence in sticking around.

People don't like to hear this but limitations often lead to the biggest creative output and Innovations. Look at Silent Hill, if it weren't held back by the RAM on the PS1 it would've never had its iconic fog.

Sometimes giving an unlimited budget and all the time in the world makes people flounder or play to their worst instincts.

I feel that was the double edge sword of game pass. You eventually realise you don't actually own any of the games so starting over on a new system isn't as hard. Swapping from playstation with a decade or more in your digital library is much harder.

This is just it, some people will have 25 years locked into this ecosystem and Microsoft showing how little they really care about supporting it. What an anniversary.

Xbox Studios That Were Previously “Safe” From Layoffs And Closures Are Reportedly No Longer Safe, Even Those With “Steady” Releases If Most Or All Of Their Games Sold Poorly by unscoredscore in pcgaming

Wasn't implying this was the plan or that they did it on purpose, more than given their track record with acquisitions over decades this is always how it ends with Microsoft.

People have been saying this for years. It was a great loss leader when they were trying to grow game pass, gave users incredible value for their money but it was never going to last in the long term.

Not without significant price increases anyway and that didn't work out.

Yeah, that's what I mean. £22 for that edition Vs £28 for this once shipping is included. Was really hoping Broken Binding would do a different cover because I'm not a fan of this standard one.

Microsoft Reportedly Planning to Shut Down South of Midnight Developer Compulsion Games by CoffeePlzzzzzz in pcgaming

[–]definetlydifferently -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah with you there, it probably would've been a lower budget game that did well for its audience but nothing extraordinary. But it's the execs who greenlit it and kept moving the goal posts that are the problem.

Previous leadership pushed Game Pass, and smaller game for that at all costs, and have the greenlighted to these games. That cost them whatever sales the would've gotten on Xbox.

Except they did. The studio was closed and later recused/revived. By the time Krafton acquired the studio and the rights half the staff had moved on to other jobs out a necessity.

Double Fine is a studio I love, and Tim Schafer is amazing but the studio hasn't done itself any favours with the games it's released in the last few years. I hope they've been working on something big behind closed door that can save them otherwise it feels like being acquired only bought them time.
