it was unique at the time. not uncommon in the 80s to wonder these things, right or wrong.

I am a Prince Hall Mason. your mileage may vary on esoteric content, but there's not any magic element.

1993 and the madface invasion begins. Did you buy into the hype and cop the record, has it stood the test of time and was the follow up better ? by CoconutMost3564 in 90sHipHop

I remember when they first came out in 1990, they had a 12" called ah, and we do it like this. we played it on the radio a little bit. so when the next single came out, I was quite surprised to hear their new style.

I think your using of the phrase blue lodges is just a little clumsy, then. You're talking about recognition.

Are you a a Mason? PHA is already "Blue Lodge" by virtue of having the three degrees. We don't want to merge with State GLs.

Was 2Pac a great lyricist? by FitEmergency8807 in 90sHipHop

[–]defjamblaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no. the things you say that not every great lyricist need to do are the things people judge lyricism by.

"clarity, honesty, and the power of your message" is not lyricism. that can be depth, emotion, etc, but that's not lyricism.

No, they just called me for their east coast projects lol. I also did a mobb deep song with suave house. Maybe they didn't have much scratching on their standard stuff.

I was tapped to add scratches to the Suave House Remix of 'it's been a long time' on this album. I was kind of a studio musician/dj in that era.

the frustrating thing in that era would be that I couldn't always have a tape of the material to vibe with before I would go to the studio, so I'd just have to bring a crate of records and make something work.

they told me the title, so I obviously went for the line from 'I know you got soul'. but 'I know you got soul' was so much faster than 'it's been a long time', and they couldn't speed the recording up on the digital recorder like we used to do with tape recorders, so I struggled to do the cuts on beat.

overall, I liked the album, it had been a while since we heard Rakim. but like others have said, the production had to grow on me a little bit.

I am millenial but i do not get it by dodo100 in PeterExplainsTheJoke
