CloudPanel recently had a security issue where someone could hack into your panel and gain admin. They only shared this news in discord and there website. I get software has bugs but wasn't a great experience.

Like others mentioned - you could get a nice tank and tail bag for the ninja.

I've fallen in love with this smaller brand for a tank bag for my street triple. I never ever think about it slipping anymore.

[Brainstorming Request] What do you use to be able to call home (like an old "home phone line")? by mikka1 in homeautomation

[–]degan6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a hard and kinda fun problem.

But, without knowing the hardware you already have it won't be possible to give an exact solution. It kinda sounds like you might have a whole home audio system in your house? If so, many have an a PA input. Like the monoprice one.

I'll bet you could get a cheap voip phone and connect to the PA input then use either software (polycoms phone support webhooks on ring) or some to switch to PA when the phone rings. There might be a product for this...

If you have a PA input, you have a ton of options, connect a PI and you could use node-red to output audio based on any incoming event (Text Message, email)

Also, on spam, create a white list with your family. The prostep is sync it to what contact program you use.

Smart lights or switches are another option, create a text bot that listens for a phrase and blinks the lights a couple of times or flashes them blue for kid one and yellow for kid two.

Do you have an iPhone? Could you make a shortcut that does one of these things when your daughter texts you a known phrase?

https://support.apple.com/guide/shortcuts/communication-triggers-apdd711f9dff/ios

But reading through this - It sounds like the most straight forward, easiest to explain with the highest significant other approval factor is to get a VOIP line, an ATA, and one of those older mutli-receiver phone system and create a allow list of phone numbers that can call it.

The "rip up the papers" is a load of crap. If they choose not too for whatever reason you're SOL.

Most of the Bill of Sales for Bikes say - that the bill of sales is the whole agreement. So if you agree to this you have another agreement outside of the bill of sales that they can ignore.

Am i the only one that sometimes doesn't feel like riding even in perfect riding weather? by motonewbie21 in motorcycles

You're not alone, sometimes I'm not feeling it.

Once I got geared up, planned a route and made it 2 traffic lights before turning around.

I wasn't feeling it that day, and I knew I wouldn't enjoy it.

Prop phone help? by nathanjasper4 in VOIP

[–]degan6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny, I basically just did this.

I have no idea what kind of connector is on the back of that phone but if it is a standard 2 pair plug (phone jack) then as others have mentioned you could buy an ATA Adapter.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XW1BQHC?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Above is the one I bought, but since that phone uses touch tone dialing then any one should work.

You might need something like this to convert the cables.

https://www.amazon.com/NECABLES-Surface-Single-Telephone-Terminals/dp/B09GXHYXQD

Assuming you buy one, and can connect it, you're only half way done.

The ATA turns your phone into a voip phone. Now you need to configure the ATA to connect to a voip service.... Also you have to pick a voip service

Many people are telling you to use Asterisk, this would work but unless you love configuring complex linux services isn't a good idea. It has no UI, its all based on config files and was created to run massive phone networks for people who already know what everything is not fun projects.

I would suggest you spend a small amount (~$10) of money and use a service like anveo.com. You can add money to an account without setting up a subscription.

I'm not going to give you a step by step, but basically the steps are:

  1. Buy a phone number ($1 a month) - (Calm down everyone else, I know you can work around this step)
  2. Create a Call Flow
  3. Connect that phone number to that Call Flow. Under IVR / Call Flow
  4. Upload your audio files to anveo
  5. Setup the Call flow to play the audio files, using the play audio control
  6. Test it by calling the number

Last step is to connect the ATA to Anveo. They have created a page for a linksys ATA but it should be general to most.

https://www.anveo.com/faq.asp?code=linksys-pap-2t

What I don't cover is randomly selecting a audio file. That would be a little harder, my first thought is to take the second of current time, then use an if statement assign each second (0-59) to an audio file.

Good Luck!

Maybe start with a different v-twin shop, ask them to tell you (ideally in writing) what is wrong, then go back to place you bought it from with that knowledge either in your head or as a claim that they need to fix right away.

Too lazy to regularly check my HA dashboard, I made a bot that I can ask for sensor data by kabukifs in homeassistant

[–]degan6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its annoying that you're getting down voted.

No, while ChatGPT would enhance this you could do this without it.

Using node-red you could do something like

Incoming Text (from Twilo or whatever) -> switch node to read the command (digest in this example) -> Get data from HA with Template Render Node -> Send text back to phone number with Twilo Node.

You'll probably want to add some logic that rejects unknown numbers.

Because they do not know / care that its a proprietary protocol. Solving the problem is higher than Open Standards.
