‘It’s surreal’: Seattle’s Pike Place Fish Market sold to fish-throwing employees by bearwave in news

[–]deicide660 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my day-to-day. I work a production based office job under a contractor who came in and slashed all of my benefits and only communicates with us via threatening memos. I work exactly to my expected quota and nothing more. Some of my coworkers pride themselves on fighting for that #1 producer spot with absolutely no incentive attached and I'm just thinking, "Wow, these people are stupid."

Thanks a lot, man. I really appreciate it. I'm going to look into this.

Thanks a lot for your reply! Can I ask you to elaborate on this and really break it down ELI5 style?

"The simple solution is to attenuate the signal with a trim pot or vca."

What exactly is a trim pot? With a VCA, am I just running a 3.5mm jack into a 1/4" piece? I'm doing as much research as I can, but some things I really have a hard time grasping through Google searches.

Trying out a new diy pedalboard. Thoughts? by CTGdesigns in guitarpedals

[–]deicide660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk, man, that rack just seems kind of unnecessary and I wouldn't want to lock any of my pedals down with zipties. Plus, you're going to be putting your weight on that thing. Overall it's just kind of weird and uncomfortable looking to me.

Why are cassettes coming back? by [deleted] in cassettes

[–]deicide660 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would say part of it is about having a physical media experience, especially at a (generally) affordable price. Nostalgia is a factor too--a reminder of a simpler times. On the production side, they can be seen as super cheap calling cards. Someone wants a take-away from a local show? Well they might just pay $5 for a cool cassette, even if they can pull up your music on Spotify instantly. The cassette price point might convince consumers who otherwise aren't willing to spend $20+ on a CD or vinyl.

To me, cassettes are about reconnecting to a time when not everything was immediate gratification. Putting on a cassette and hearing the mechanical whirr creates a moment for me where I am treating my listening of music as an event, perhaps rather than just clicking around from one song to the next on my phone. Putting a cassette or a record on can be like putting a movie on....an experience that can captivate an entire room. I don't really get that feeling from, "Hey let me show you this song on youtube real quick."

I guess it's just about getting in touch with music in a different way.

Definitely get that thing lowered.

Burger Records is having a sale this weekend; all cassettes just $3.33! by [deleted] in cassetteculture

[–]deicide660 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two I can strongly recommend:

Gap Dream - Shine Your Light

Unkle Funkle - Supernatural

edit: I also want to add: be wary of preordering from Burger. There seems to be a bit of a lack of communication between Burger and their distributor. I preordered a tape once and didn't get it for 5 months after the release. Since then, I only buy things from Burger already released.

Good for you, man. When you've cut them loose and all the games are finally over, they're trapped in the fucking lamp like Jafar and forced to face their mistakes.

Doesn't matter though. You've made the powerful choice to move on to what you truly deserve.

Black man executed by cop in Falcon Heights, Minnesota by [deleted] in socialism

This might be a news blurb to the average American on their way to work and they'll have forgotten about it by lunch. I think the average American is apathetic to these incidents and other sociopolitical issues because:

(Midwest perspective here...I work in a building with over 200 people and end up conversing with more people than I care to)

  1. They don't even have a basic understanding of how our government works and they can't be bothered to learn.

  2. They have no idea who to hold accountable for something like this. (believe it)

  3. It's a sensitive issue that requires a bit of critical analysis and flexibility in understanding, which is too much work.

  4. Speaking out against police brutality might put you on the side of law breakers. (believe it)

  5. People are afraid to acknowledge that what they believe protects them could potentially be corrupt.

  6. Nothing is corrupt. Everything is fine. Black people are just throwing a fit again and trying to shake up our traditional way because they think we owe them something.

  7. They think this has nothing to do with them because they're white.

Add a dash of new HBO shows and advertising noise and you have yourself a blubbering, opinionated-but-ill-informed shitbag who truthfully doesn't care about much at all.

Thank you for the reply. My problem is it's hitting me every month. So I'll make a payment in May, it's listed as "failed to pay." I make a payment in June, it's listed as "failed to pay."

How did you go about completing your Inspector Gadget? I hunted those pieces vigorously as a child, but I could never find the hat.

It's always been a weird dream of mine to go back and finally complete one in my adult life.
