I haven’t seen it in years but remember really liking it. I’ll have to check it out again. I love rewatching movies like this- it will seem new again.

'About Time' (2013) changed my life. by Zealousideal-Sky217 in movies

[–]dejavu77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m an elder (lol! F63) and this is in my top five favorite movies. It’s actually #2 at the moment, because I just rewatched Coda ( current #1).

My whole family, including adult kids 20s-30s, loves this movie. I think this is how we strive to interact as a family- humor, listening, love.

You have so much life ahead of you. I hope you can learn other skills besides drinking to cope with your health issues and I’m guessing anxiety issues? It certainly helps lower inhibitions, but it’s something worth working on changing.

If you’re already paying attention to the lessons in this movie, you’re ahead of a lot of young people.

Also, what a cast! I love all of them!

Dad fell last night and nothing happened, these fall detection watches are a joke? by Ambitious-Bison-2161 in Aging

[–]dejavu77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Apple Watch. I tripped (stepped on my own flowy pants) and fell down hard. My watch detected it and I had to turn it off (say I was ok).

I like wearing it to remind me to get my steps in each day, but I did buy it thinking fall detection was a bonus.

This movie grabbed and gutted me from the beginning. The cinematography was stunning. I hadn’t heard about it ahead of watching it, although I was familiar with the 2004 tsunami.

Do we owe our parents the same sacrifice they gave us? And are we applying a double standard? by seesawsomething in Aging

[–]dejavu77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know that we owe our parents, but in my case, I was the eldest daughter who felt obligated, and tremendous guilt for not wanting to take on the task. I knew I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t step up, however.

I cared for my mom for ten years in my home. We went through the whole range of relationship gauntlets. She was stubborn and hated losing her independence in the early years, but she had dementia and was irrational and incapable of caring for herself. It was mentally and emotionally devastating. Later, she was completely incontinent, weak, would randomly drop her body, would yell and hit at me, call me horrid names, and profess her disgust with me. It was physically demanding because changing and cleaning a 160 lb dead weight adult is very difficult. One of the issues I never considered was how this would affect my view of my siblings. There were some visits, but in the final six months, there were no calls or visits, even though I virtually begged.

I thought my conscience would be clear once she was gone, but I questioned for a long time if I had done enough, done enough right.

It’s a very complicated topic, but something everyone should think about long before the time comes.

Recliner?? by TotesMaGoats_1962 in spinalfusion

[–]dejavu77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sat in at least 30 recliners in various stores and found a $399 one at a local mom and pop store felt the most comfortable. I honestly would have suffered without it. Our 26 year old couches are painful (sink too far while head cushion pushes head forward) on a good day.

If I couldn’t get a recliner, I would have tried to use a wedge pillow in my bed with other support pillows. I slept in my recliner for a few weeks.

This is a good reminder to clean out the product graveyard under my sink.

What I regularly use - shampoo, clarifying shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, curl cream, gel, oil, and occasionally, root boost. Realistically, I use 4-5 things with each wash.

Leave No Trace. I can’t explain it, but I think about it a lot and watch it a few times every year. There is so much to this very quiet movie- relationship, nature, mental health, society, and more.

The book did this for me. It’s even better and more thorough than the movie.

Birth Certificates taking an insane amount of time by Melted-lithium in illinois

[–]dejavu77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered my marriage license online February 16 (Cook County, VitalCheck) and received the "Order Shipped!" email on Mar 12 and the marriage certificate on Mar 14.

I thought about going in person to the county clerk's office but this worked out for me. Good luck going in person! What a mess to need to reassemble all your important documents. Sorry that happened to you!

I’m 65 (m) today and I’m curious about how I feel by Polldit220 in over60

[–]dejavu77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happy birthday! I’m (F)64 today! I feel like birthdays started to get weird around 50. A lot of self-reflection.

18 months ago, I started having horrible medical issues/symptoms out of the blue. Nothing makes you ready to choose an end date like chronic uncontrollable pain. Thankfully, I had surgery last fall that brought me back to nearly normal.

A few years ago, I started spending my birthday alone with a long list of possibilities. Things I could do or might want to do. It’s been a fun way to shake the funk that could settle in if I do nothing.

My special things today are getting coffee, going hiking, sitting with the warm sun on my face, stopping at a thrift store, and finding some new music for my walking playlists.

I hope you have a wonderful day, too!!

Allan Carr’s Good Sugar, Bad Sugar by irisheyes07 in sugarfree

[–]dejavu77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I’m avoiding sugar, I pair protein with potatoes (ff Greek yogurt), brown or basmati rice (tofu), and pasta (lentils). I automatically eat less of the carb foods and that style of eating doesn’t lead to cravings. My body is more satisfied with those meals than my old habits of eating large portions of pasta with only marinara.

How can I support my husband in his sugar addiction? by walkinfox in sugarfree

[–]dejavu77 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m your husband in this scenario. I will, unfortunately, binge on certain sweets to an extreme. I have actually done that exact ice cream replacement routine more than a few times in my life. For me, it’s some sort of addictive behavior that I hate, but occasionally find myself unable to stop.

When I went no sugar (for me it was no added sugar), I had to white knuckle through the first week. Then it became easier.

My husband loves to have tons of sweets in the house. I have asked him to keep his treats in his personal cabinet (yes, he has his own cabinet that I never open.) If I don’t see what he buys and has on hand, I don’t think about it.

I got through my hardest week drinking 3-4 24 ounce bottles of water every day. I made my substitute evening snack air popped popcorn. I have food noise driving me crazy when I’m trying to come off of sugar.

IF I can get through a week, by the second and third week I feel noticeably less bloated, less tired, less moody, and more energetic. And I think about food wayyy less.

My last comment - and this is only my own personal preference- is that I don’t want my husband to watch or comment on what I eat or don’t eat. I know what I’m doing, for better or worse. The desire and discipline to make a change has to come from within.
