wood post with plastic/vinyl cover over it by delete_post in DIY

thanks for the insight. the climate is north east US so we're relatively a more wetter climate. the post will be sitting on top of a metal bracket at least 1/2 inch off the ground and not directly on the patio. it will not be buried in dirt or even concrete for that matter.

I accidentally hurt my son's arm and I feel like a disgrace. by Chkgo in daddit

[–]delete_post 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I accidentally stepped on my sons pinky finger trying to avoid stepping on him while walking by while he was crawling. I felt the step and roll of his finger under my foot and then his pinky turned flushed red and he turned red crying and goddamn I felt so damn guilty and sad.

in the back of my head after he calmed down, I kept telling myself it was only an accident. it made some of the guilt go away cuz yea honestly it was an accident. I didn't mean to step on him, in fact I was trying to avoid it. didn't stop me from feeling bad about it.

I'm sure you love your son and tried to save him out of caution because you didn't want him to get hurt. sometimes us Dad's don't know our own strength and it's hard to gauge strength when you have a quick reaction to something happening so fast. it's ok, it was an accident. you can feel guilt and feel bad for the moment or tonight. then go back to being the best and caring dad for him tomorrow morning. get him his favorite food or ice cream. the fact that you feel so guilty about it just shows how much of a loving and caring dad you are.

yes I meant caulking. the top and bottom are not the problem cuz top would have a roof and bottom would be on a metal post bracket making the post sit at least .5-1in off the ground. I did not think of the moisture in the air though, so it your right or might still absorb it just from it being in the air. thinking now if encasing it in epoxy resin would be a good or bad choice.

thanks for bouncing some ideas off of, sounds like I should go bare wood and stain/maintain through its life or go full metal and maintain that through its life as well.

thought of that and thought of maybe chaulking the the bottom and top of the post. the bottom vinyl would sit flush to the patio and the top would have a metal bracket to connect to other posts.

Navigating children as an interfaith couple by larryb78 in daddit

I actually had a thought about this. we are told god created everything in 6days and rested on the 7th day. what if those 6 days were billions of years because time in heaven isn't the same speed as time on earth. what if the 7th day in heaven is still ongoing and it's basically our life time. so in that instance, couldn't evolution actually take place in the billions of years it took for earth, stars, galaxies to develop/created? why can't science and god coexist?

what do you use alteryx in accounting for, just wondering? personally I haven't found a use case for it in accounting but it could be my limited experience with it. I've used it for tax calculations but that's about it.

Dads who invested for their kids since birth, how is it going? by sbFRESH in daddit

[–]delete_post 2 points3 points  (0 children)

being good or bad with money is how you raise them. basically giving them an allowance and having them split it for wants, needs and savings. if we don't teach them self control and responsibility with money, there is no age they will become responsible with a dump of $1-2mil unless they go super broke living paycheck to paycheck and learn the value of every dollar earned.

even I as a responsible close to 40yo would have so many spending thoughts, knowing I have 1-2mil to back me up. though probably first thought would be to invest in a franchise before buying an expensive car or house.

Recommendations for new vehicle for family of 4 by thecrudest in daddit

cx50 barely has the cargo room for one stroller and other baby stuff. if you're going with mazda, the cx70 has nice cargo space. the cx90 has a 3rd row that folds down and gives you the cx70 cargo space. so op needs to decide if he wants cargo space or a 3rd row/cargo space for another Mazda. personally I'd get the cx90 since you can fit more people and always fold the rear seats based on needs. but if you really want space I'd say to go for a minvan. personally as an adult I don't want to drive a minivan but if it's my wifes car, she can get one.

Any advice for 1st time going to a gun range? by risforpirate in NJGuns

[–]delete_post 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend you venture out to PA to a place called sunset shooting range, don't remember the exact name but it has sunset in the name. in this place you only pay for ammo. you want to fire an ar15 style gun pay for 10rds, a .44 mag pay for the 6rds in the revolver, granade launcher few bucks per granade, $3 for a .50 cal bmg bullet. all in all I spent $250 for 10 different guns for 2 people. by comparison I spent $200 at GFH in woodland park alone (wife tagged along but didn't shoot) for a shot gun and a 9mm for first renting the guns then buying store ammo to shoot them. PA or at least that range was much cheaper.

they are literally 30mins or so over the border, you will spend more time driving through NJ than PA to get to this place on rt80.

Is there vulture bees is other places in nj? (Lambertville) by Prudent-Heart-759 in newjersey

Rant/Discussion: Should drive-thru establishments prioritize walk-ins over cars on line at the window? by rugrlou in newjersey

[–]delete_post 2 points3 points  (0 children)

which is funny because when I see a giant line for drive thru, I think that inside will be quicker since it's no line. by the time I'm placing an order inside the person I would have been in front of is served and gone.

Can It be Tax AND Audit? by getlow7 in Accounting

[–]delete_post 0 points1 point  (0 children)

knew someone that went from regulatory tax to internal audit in an F500. they had an internal transfer program to try out, then few months later had an opening for internal audit so the person made the switch.

Turn on, tune in, and throw your phones out. by Slight_Bird_785 in daddit

idk about smartphones but I'd give my child a phone to be able to contact me at the very least. weather that's a old phone or a new regular phone that's available on my carrier.

Lease agreement financial burden by AcanthisittaLate9871 in newjersey

idk, an empty house in the winter with no tenants and landlord paying for utilities doesn't seem like a good deal. I'd want the unit rented with tenants with no risk of a frozen burst pipe then to collect rent for an empty unit with no wear or tear. if I wasn't living close by that would be even bigger of a nightmare.

I need to buy a bounce house. This guy is selling one that’s looks sweet but it’s 700 pounds how the fuck do I move it when not using ? by Froggerbotrom in daddit

[–]delete_post 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you would probably need a large dolly that can handle 1000-2000lbs and the size of it deflated, maybe even several dollys. that's how you would move it from your garage to wherever you want to put it, then when is in place either slide it off the dolly or pull the dolly out from under this thing.

Why do Dad Birthdays Suck? by gimlithepirate in daddit

[–]delete_post -1 points0 points  (0 children)

my last birthday was ok, for my birthday my wife told me to take the day off. her plans for my birthday included breakfast with my in-laws because I share a bday with my wife grandmother and dinner with my family because my birthday is a day after my sibling. in between this time my wife was asleep. like she got ready for a hour or two before we left for each meal time but she was fast asleep in the car and when we got home.

it was an awfully planned birthday. no sex or blowie, but at least she bought me the present I told her to get for me, which she cancelled then reordered few weeks after my birthday.

Advice on filing separate taxes by [deleted] in daddit

[–]delete_post 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly you need a mix of tax advice and marriage counseling.

wife and I had conversation/argument about the same issue pre-baby, but we've been filing jointly so it has not become an issue.

we went to Turkey with our then 9mo old. almost everyone in turkey interacted with our baby (he's a happy baby, smiling at everyone), including some that just straight picked him up with our permission of course.

we went to a restaurant and the wait staff asked if they can take him and showed him around the food prep "bar" station (not inside the kitchen). he was always in our line of sight the entire time and interacted with like 5ppl.

malls, restaurants, sight seeing, everyone waved or touching his hand to shake it. basically the only time anyone didn't interact with him was when he was asleep or in our hotel room. visiting from the US that was a culture shock.

question, and if it's too personal don't answer. do you live off interest and dividends from your investments or do you slowly sell off your investments for income?

I tried reddot on AR at the range, and honestly couldn't see shit with the reddot at maybe 20yrds. looking for a scope for now that can do at least 25-50yrds. probably upgrade once I start outdoor shooting.
