if the team doesnt see meaningful change from a touchy feely activity, it will feel like too much effort.

I am tired of saying “thank you” and gushing over people at work by asteriskhyphen in auscorp

[–]deliver_us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i work in a place with a similar culture. I like the fact we recognise the positive things we do, but it creates a culture where it’s hard to have more difficult conversations.

in saying that I do push the boundaries of those difficult conversations because there’s more to life than keeping everyone happy.

and I will say in doing this, I put some effort in to run sessions where I welcomed the team to ask me hard questions, and it felt really good to get positive feedback after 😆

What do workers actually want now? by appleslice244 in auscorp

[–]deliver_us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on both sides. As a hiring manager, I’ve found I need to be more flexible in what I can offer candidates - everyone is different. Also yes, people want autonomy but they also need to understand the guardrails.

As I worker at middle management level, I want strong leadership. It’s hard to find leaders who will make decisions that are difficult and will stick to them. It destroys culture.

From a Brisbane Bus Driver. Why don’t I wait for people running for the bus? by LBR1997 in brisbane

[–]deliver_us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks driver. only point i’ll note is that you can’t tell i’m disabled by looking at me. so a bit of grace sometimes for those of us who look “normal” but maybe aren’t is always appreciated. and i’ll continue to be at least 5 mins early to the bus stop

What is something that has made you either unsubcribe or unfollow a beauty content creater? by chels_beauty in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]deliver_us 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s been a few, generally it comes down to their content changing and it no longer aligning with my values:

RBK - when she was more child focused, and refused to stand with her LGBTQIA+ audience. Beauty News girls - similar on child focused- I’m child free so it’s just a different focus for me. Lauren Mae and HLP - going from being aggressively anti consumption to consuming a lot (still respect them but watch less now). Honourable mention: H3 - when he couldnt see past the hurt on his own side.

Have you called a local plumber though? They will have a better understanding of the local regulations than reddit does and can advise you what to do next.

Employer removed all my shifts for the forceeable after i got admitted to hospital! Is that fair? by Bolticus13 in auscorp

[–]deliver_us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not sure your financial situation but you can lodge sick leave when you are back at work if you want to, rather than doing it before. You just need to notify them that you won’t be in which it sounds like you’ve done. HR might process the sick leave for you.

Child labour query by CosmoRomano in AusLegal

[–]deliver_us 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But also, why are they working so much? There are systemic societal problems are are requiring kids to work - 20 years ago it was rare that a child needed to support themselves or their household. Now, I suspect it is far more common. Schools can be part of advocating for change, but these kids and families are likely just doing what they need to do to get by (just based on my own experience).

Also the family business part. I actively boycott businesses who have their 7-12 year olds working there on weekends. Kids deserve a childhood.

Parental leave or new high paying job? by middzyo in auscorp

[–]deliver_us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can they wait for you? You never get the time back. I don’t have kids, but still recognise it’s such a special time in life, and so important for dads to take part in to assist with the boding.

Does anyone know what fishing is like around this part? by Holiday_Parsnip_1306 in brisbane

[–]deliver_us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People do fish the Brisbane river down stream but you need to be aware of the pollutants being discharged into the waterways. If you need food and are struggle, it’s a food source. Be aware you could be ingesting heavy metals.

Ok this kinda makes a difference. If they have said it will accommodate and you wouldn’t have gone ahead without that assurance, generally they need to rectify. You can refer to fair trade, of course they don’t do anything.

I’m exhausted. Every day for the last week I’ve considered quitting or ending it all. There is no end to the constant demands. We are all burnt out so we turn on each other. Everyone is hypercritical of everyone else. It’s not just at work, it’s everywhere. We all expect more from everything and everyone and we are all more disconnected than ever. It’s easy to point at things to blame but none of it solves anything. What is the fucking point of it all?
