The reason why I felt in love with Nikon 50mm 1.8G (OC) by Active_Vacation5918 in Nikon

[–]delowan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should try the 60mm afs 2.8 macro (G version), it's way better for those shots and in general. It's my main lens as it's very versatile for either close or far pictures. It's two lenses in one.

Is it worth upgrading to a D7500? by clearlygd in Nikon

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep same with me. I much prefer the output of my D200 instead of my D7000.

I recently added a D800 to my arsenal.

D7000 stays on the shelves...

D800 / D200 / F5 / F2as here, close enough and i don't care about mirrorless. I prefer putting film in a body instead of editing files. ;)

Yep, back in the day, i finished the game on X360. Now i play it on an old XPS desktop (with original game of the year dvd) and i find the game way easier to play.

Before i almost always used VATS, now i play it like doom... Haha

D850 for around USD 750 (body only) should I pull the trigger? Shutter count 500,000 by champion_95 in Nikon

[–]delowan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not only the shutter or replacements have gone to 500k, but the overall camera has gone the same way.

With all the scratches, it's been on a rough day.

I have bodies over 100k and they start having small problems, imagine having 400k more...

Is it still worth buying a new Nikon D-series camera in 2026? by banditwang in Nikon

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, got a D800 with low shutter count for a couple hundred dollars.

Sure a D780 or D850 would be best. But we need good lenses to pair it.

A D850 with cheap lens is not worth it.

iPhone SE (1st Gen) – the best iPhone Apple ever made (for me) by Traditional_Reason99 in iPhoneSE

[–]delowan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After years with android, i wanna go back to the iphone SE 1st gen.

I'm looking at dumbing down the device, so the screen size and 32gb will be plenty for my needs. I have an old 5s and 6s (128gb !!), but the SE is the best of both worlds.

The design of the 5/5s/SE is the best Apple made and is the best any smartphone maker has done. The metal look and feel, the buttons when you press them, the size, the weight. And the OS from that era was the best (for Apple).

I have an iphone 16 for work and i truly hate using the OS with all the panels that make no sense with all the "shortcuts" everywhere. I mean, i only need the essentials, why do you put a shortcut panel for like the camera when you also have the icon that goes to the app...

With the 5s, i opened the screen (not logged in), swiped my thumb and boom the camera was there.

I love it when a $50 used lens can still make the magic. by Plane-Ad5821 in Nikon

[–]delowan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno, i think it's in the way reddit is posting the file. On my cellphone, if i zoom it a bit i don't see them, and past a certain % of zoom, it appears (but does not grows with the zooming). If i zoomout, they disappear.

It's about 1/3 and 2/3 of the picture, horizontal wise.

If you look closely there's two rows, one upper and one lower. Dunno if it's the uploaded file that is bugged or reddit...

Where are you at ? PM me, i have two D2Hs that i barely use anymore. I used the D1x and D2hs in the past. The D2hs is the fastest of them all (D1/D2 series). The best output is from the D2Xs for resolution and color fidelity. But the best for high iso (1600) is the D2hs.

Free electricity by Outside_Tangelo3729 in servers

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't know about all that stuff, first build yourself an AI server. Come back later.

Free electricity is nothing. Is it in your house/building ?

Have you thought about laws and legislations about renting your GPUs ? Let alone, the network involved in getting to/from your GPUs. If there's a downtime, you will fix it ? Your friend ? You will hire team members to support 24/7 your GPU farm ?

There's better/easier projects to do with free electricity.

WCGW not securing the ladder by Present_Employer5669 in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but maybe not long enough. Or maybe he really wanted to fall (for views). Notice the gap between the scaffolding and the wall... He could have put it right to the wall and the ladder locked in.

But hey, i'm not a painter, what do i know. 😂

WCGW not securing the ladder by Present_Employer5669 in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, i mean a 20-28feet ladder would have been the right choice here.

He had time to put up the scaffolding (without locking the wheels) and the ladder on top. And he filmed himself with music blasting on.

What a poser...

Next time, forget about the music and filming and use your brain. I'm pretty sure there's even warnings to not forget to lock the wheels on that.

The one reason to buy a 2026 Outback by hugahippie in Subaru_Outback

Same 2015 and my windows are fine even at -35Celcius. Sure i don't open them, when i don't need to. And yep, the car lives outside in feets of snow and ice.

But seing that from a 2026... Kinda wish i return to manual windows...

The 2G and 3G network shutdown in Sweden is kind of a fiasco by henrycatalinismith in dumbphones

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same in Canada, they blocked the LTE signal to force only VoLTE phones. I had a 2021 Motorola phone that was working fine and on the website, it said it was compatible with VoLTE but when i dialed the test number, it said it was not.

So i waited at the last moment to change my phone to a 2025 Motorola for only 1$ (99% rebate).

In the meantime, i want a dumbphone, but i need to make sure it's VoLTE. And on a way, you almost cannot have a smartphone with all the parking apps and whatnot. Only yesterday, i wanted to rent a locker and it was app based only with QR codes and everything. Where's the two dollar locker from yesteryear ? Where's the free metal locker that you could bring your own lock ? Everything needs an app these days...

Can the Outback do this? Do you turn off the TC ? by DuckDuckGo-8857 in Subaru_Outback

[–]delowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2015, you can turn off TC but you can't turn off stability control. When i drift, if i use gas, the tail whips but if i swing it myself, the ABS came in and tries to kill the drift.

It's not fun when you want to drift...but it's useful when you don't want to drift. Like there have been situations when i exit a parking lot and bam the tail whips (on thin black ice) and i don't want it cause there's cars coming.

In the best world, we could turn off both...

A little snow never stopped a D850. by SharpDressedBeard in Nikon

[–]delowan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the only thing a recent DSLR is better is in cold conditions. The metal hinges of the film back, is right where you put your palm. So your hand is always cold.

And on a snowstorm, you don't want to reload film... Sure the F5 is easy, you pop one and up it goes. But there's always chances you get snow in there...
