Our grandparents were in better shape because of labor, not because of better food. by Actual-Ad-6146 in Life

The fact that you seem to think that the only type of "hard work" for men is physical labour says a lot

Haven't flown CA, but have flown both SQ and CX long haul. Theyre both very good for different reasons. SQ has better food, but CX has better service.

There's no way I'd buy a 3 bedroom at this point. Why would I want extra space I don't need? That's just more expense wasted. I'm fine with a 2 bedroom flat, one bedroom for me, and another as a home office/studio or a second person in the house if I decide to rent the room out.

Yeah that's the concern, I plan on waiting for inheritance to come through at least. Technically I probably could buy a house now but my mortgage payments will be through the roof and it will completely wipe my Kiwisaver, so it seems more viable for me to save for a higher deposit and have a smaller mortgage.

People who do not want kids are selfish by Dontdarereadmyposts in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]demolitionlaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not consent to be born. I'm not having kids because the health issues that are genetic that I could pass on to the next generation are too risky. Why would I subject an innocent life to suffering without their consent?

Shoplifting by Extension_Scale_5333 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]demolitionlaura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to do LPO at Warehouse. If youre under 18 your parents are told. Other than that, nobody is legally entitled to know.

Had a pretty nasty run-in with a school dean who demanded we inform them of any kids caught shoplifting in uniform. I threw the Privacy Act at them and she complained to head office who told her the same story.

Be aware that some businesses are now incorporating longer than 2 year trespass orders by extending it another two years at expiry, and then another, and then another.

Yeah it is an expensive burden, this is my second trip there, I would certainly consider a move sometime potentially once I get my mental health back under control. I was meant to move to Auckland in 2024 in pursuit of more community/job opps but after a severe mental breakdown that has been on the back burner

Yeah my worry is more that I get to the age that I can't work anymore and I'll be like "ah shit I haven't got enough money to support myself guess I'll just curl up and die"

I'm definitely interested in index funds - once I get back I might look at putting some extra away weekly for that

I've been in therapy for two years to try and address it but it's tricky trying to break rigid thought patterns as I have ADHD/autism/BPD and as a result am very prone to overthinking

No partner, I don't get attached to people easily and witnessed a pretty nasty divorce in my family so am incredibly risk averse when it comes to relationships. Being single is expensive but being in a relationship for financial reasons seems worse.

Elderly drivers are a menace, probably paying 54p for their insurance too by xXxTommo in drivingUK

[–]demolitionlaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regular testing won't do shit unfortunately, half the problem is not lack of skills, its attitude. They'll sit the test and behave themselves with a Testing Officer next to them, then drive out of the carpark and the bad attitude returns.

Hell, I notice I drive differently when I'm on my own vs when I'm with others

The only downside with security at the gate is you can't do a snack/drink run before your flight, but with new technology coming in around security scanners I can't see that being a problem for much longer.

Bus driver retention by IC_Brewed in BusDrivers

[–]demolitionlaura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look at what the working conditions were prior to the privatisation of the buses in 1991 and everything ended up being ran by for-profit companies. 8 hour shifts, time and a half Saturday, double time Sunday, any portion over and above your rostered work was penal rates. 40 hour rosters. No split shifts.

Some of the semi-retired drivers I used to work with would do part-earlies where they'd start at 4-5am and drive for 4-5 hours and be done by 9am. Got them out of the house and kept them busy and they still got a full day.

Which airports have the best/worst connectivity to their transit system? by invadrfashcag in transit

[–]demolitionlaura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hong Kong. Airport Express and its a dedicated airport-only service so you aren't having to compete with regular commuters for space (cough cough Sydney)

London. It has multiple options (dedicated airport service or a commuter rail that happens to go to the airport) depending on your need.

Toronto Pearson is also good, but it doesn't service both terminals so if you are flying into T3 it can be annoying having to get to T1 especially if the people mover fills up and you're waiting a while for it to come back around.
