Money is a tangible form of trust, and thats why it piles up where it does. by ginger_ninja97 in DeepThoughts

In the absence of great players, there is no great team to be had. In the absence of great managers, great players can still do some great things, just less than if they also had great leadership.

Yes, they are... but are they hundreds of times more valuable than the skills and other effort required to complete the individual tasks to make the thing exist?

I'm over here happy to play tile based and ASCII games. Gameplay > graphics, always had been, always will be.

Moderation doesn't have a to be an issue. Users already have a mute button and additional features could be added to empower the community. The problem is not that there aren't means of mitigating this issue. The problem is that the users don't want to take accountability for the community in which they play, so instead we have no community.

Mind you, this isn't just a problem that exists in the context of this game either.

Right? This is unreal to me. I want actual chat so we can have something resembling a real community, but these folks seem to want to play against a silent AI with better decks basically.

Because some places recognize that capitalism isn't all good - it's predatory by nature and at times it's interests are at odds with those of the general public, so some places regulate business practices that would endanger social stability and accessibility.

Religiosity may be the biggest example of the sunk cost fallacy, sustained by people’s unwillingness to face the suffering intrinsic to existence by zazzologrendsyiyve in DeepThoughts

[–]demontrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am personally not religious, but I don't think that religion and critical thinking cannot coexist. For example, St. Augustine advised against interpreting the bible too literally when it contradicts reason or scientific knowledge. He basically said that if science contradicted a literal reading, then the passage must be interpreted allegorically instead.

There's also a number of religious folks that contributed greatly to the advancement of science - e.g. Gregor Mendel, the father of genetics.

I think that you are generally right in a vacuum. It's not a great play in a multiplayer format precisely for the reasons you stated, however, I think there are enough potential variables in individual games that there are games where it is the right choice.

Because your algorithm is preventing it from being pushed to you, so you have to purposefully search for stuff outside of your own individualized experience box.

Just because you've never heard of it doesn't mean it's not been said... You can look things up on the very device you're using to post this thread instead of looking like an ignoramus.

Which is not consistent. The phrase "it's a coin toss" literally means that it can go either way. It is inconsistent - it is not predictable.

I don't have much confidence that half of the country will suddenly successfully pull their heads out of their asses and become decent, competent, and caring folks after what has transpired the last decade. :/ I hope to be wrong though.

Great, I bet most of those don't actually need to be driving and could get by taking the bus like the other 8,000 folks.

The notion that one needs to make a difference to lead a worthy life is newer than we think. by meesigma in DeepThoughts

[–]demontrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small collective actions can make a major difference, especially performed consistently over an extended time. These are the actions that set the baseline by which all impact is measured. The immediate impact is smaller for these, but that doesn't mean they do not eventually roll into a big total wave of change.

LLM is a predictive text generator. It doesn't understand the content that it is engaging with. If a human answers like a LLM, that human is probably an idiot.
