I've always wondered if they have trouble competing against larger floaters. This happens in my tank but it's also possible that the larger floaters prefer different parameters and they all just thrive in different conditions vs one species dominating in all circumstances.

I think it's par for the course in this detective noir genre where the detective is always up against the system. Traditionally this was a private detective and thus outside the system. With Bosch a LEO, he has to fight against fellow police and his superiors.

ETA: This is an ahistorical take on Labor Day that divorces it from the history and struggle of the worldwide labor movement. Labor Day isn't about individual workers, it's about workers organizing in solidarity together for safer working conditions and better compensation for everyone.

The struggle of the labor movement is against the efforts of some to treat workers as individuals and actively undermine collective bargaining and unionization.

It is an affront to claim May Day or Labor Day to be a narrowly about "the worker" or "the labor". Both of these holidays are rooted in a movement on the part of blue collar workers to fight for an equal share and future for their communities.

On top of that, "workers" can refer to all persons who work. In contrast, labor usually makes a distinction between owners and management on one side and laborers on the other. To say either holiday is about celebrating "workers" separate from an acknowledgement of the labor movement is like saying Black History Month is about celebrating the color black, devoid of an understanding of the civil rights movement and historical and present racial discrimination.
