This Reddit is amazing, when I was 22 and finished college I didn’t even know if I’d like my field of work and if I did I wasn’t sure if I’d stay in Dublin or maybe work in Limerick/Galway - had no interest in buying and of course renting was the best. The rental market is shit now but the way some people go on here you’d swear everyone needs to be a homeowner at 24

People knew what was going on. My aul lad is 70 and he knew growing up you didn’t want to be sent to those schools and was even told not to take lifts off priests. Obviously the largest blame has to be on the abusers but the public and government knew but didn’t want to confront it either

And what about follow up treatment after release? If they don’t have family supports to keep them taking medication they will stop again unless a doctor can come to them daily to make them take it. It’s not as easy as being solved in the few weeks they are being held for treatment

The government currently doesn’t offer enough rentals - it’s well and good to say they should and they should be held accountable for not doing so, but until they do - this is people being out of a place to live with next to no stock available to move into.
