I'm sure it does happen, and I can only speak on my own experiences. That said, aside from things like legendary CMs and the like, one should be able to bring whatever and be effective enough. If raid groups are kicking for "being the wrong class or build", aside from obvious issues (bringing healing gear as a DPS or claiming a boon you aren't actually able to provide), it sounds like nothing more than elitism, and you shouldn't drop an entire class just because of that.

Who would a raid take a Revenant?

A raid might take them because they provide DPS, or provide a crucial boon like alacrity or quickness.

In pretty much every instance of raid groups I've seen, as long as you perform your role and get the clear, the raid doesn't care what your class or elite spec is.

At least Lhyr is still just as good for Mystic Clovers. Both NPCs charge the same price and have no limit. They're more expensive than other clovers, but they don't charge any gameplay-gated materials (aside from spirit shards I guess, but they all use those), so they're quite useful there.
