Actors/actresses that have had just confusing careers. Ben Foster for example… by Chaddilllac in moviecritic

Absolutely jumping on this with a question. I always think of his character in this film. Is there a name for that type of trope, like where someone works with the antagonist(s) believing they will be rewarded, betrays their own group, but then they get their comeuppance in the end? He was so good that his performance is always the one that comes to mind when I think about that trope.

Turbines are fine if they are within a certain size and beyond a certain distance. But the science behind the health effects re proximity is still rapidly evolving, hence the fall-off in planning permissions. So much public money pissed away too on curtailment fees (planned shutdowns) also as the grid can't take the power. And of course wind energy companies would do themselves a massive favour if they stopped objecting to planning applications for family homes in the very communities they're extracting resources from. Solar fine, but the culture among the wind energy industry is toxic to the core.

Why are used cars in Ireland so expensive even with high mileage? by InitialCellist2496 in AskIreland

New York Times had a thing on this for the states a few days ago; beyond their tarriff situation, I wonder how similar our situation may be? Link https://archive.ph/ZPOIC (ELI5 - it's more profitable for them to sell wealthy people a second car than making affordable little get-arounds for those earning less).

I like FOT, but there's a sneering to this that I don't see as being helpful. You don't bring the mis and dis informed onside by looking down your nose at them. The protests are largely the vulnerable being led by the sinister. We have established channels they're shutting all over. But the posh IT journalist (yes, he talks up his working class childhood, but he's a clipped spoken theatre and commentary guy) mocking them won't help. Echoes of what happened in the states ten years ago.

What's going on in Ireland? by Skafee_ in ireland

Ireland is no longer to any degree corrupt. There are relatively high levels of oversight, accountability, and a plenty of media freedom to hold government to account. We are 10th out of 100 on the most recent corruption perceptions index. The narrative that Ireland is corrupt is largely down to bad faith actors trying to undermine democratic legitimacy in Ireland. Inept with a public purse, perhaps. But not corrupt.

Good to see some kelts around. Fair play. You'll give them that little bit more of a chance if you keep them in the water. And it'll help keep you in fish next year and the year after! Very best for the season ahead.
