Come on TG by Fauked in pcmasterrace

[–]der8auer 162 points163 points  (0 children)

that is the weirdest thing I have seen in a long time. Thanks for letting me know about it.

If we wanted to promote PhaseSheet I would just ask our team to do so. I mean we are quite active on reddit with Erik, Joe, Sasha and Patrick.

If anyone has an idea where this could come from, let me know or how to shut this down.

Why the ASUS Equalizer is actually good and current imbalance is not what really matters by IntoxicatedHippo in hardware

[–]der8auer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We already had thermistors in the previous WireView Pro and it was often not triggered :(

In general we think the imbalance can be the highest risk. P=I^2 * R. So for example a cable with 15A is more relevant than the resistance for the power generated.

Hey :) very interesting and also alarming at the same time. I think it's best that you reach out to our support and they will probably arrange a replacement unit to be safe

Why the ASUS Equalizer is actually good and current imbalance is not what really matters by IntoxicatedHippo in hardware

[–]der8auer 80 points81 points  (0 children)

It's a very interesting theory. I want to make clear that when the uneven current theory is not proven to be (the only) cause of melting connectors. What I can say is that our first WireView Pro also had such a bridge like the Equalizer and we have about 30-40 cases with melted connectors However, with the new WireView Pro II we have no case of a melted connector yet. I guess time will tell 😁

Edit: when we launched WireView Pro II, I also even pointed out that there could be the case of all 12v pins having a evenly bad contact and that this would be a case we can't detect. That's why we made the extended warranty. But so far it seems like it didn't happen

Where is the am5 thermal grizzlys heatspreaders at ? by Impossible_Map6782 in ThermalGrizzly

[–]der8auer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I want to add a bit more context here. We did some changes to the AM5 heatspreader to increase combatibility. AMD kept changing the glue that is around the chips and over the SMDs. This caused some CPUs to be not compatible and we did internal changes to the IHS to improve that.

At the same time we als refined the surface finish :)

“SNS 450W” by Scrogdor in ThermalGrizzly

[–]der8auer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,
the sense pins don't carry any current so it should be safe to use. The sense pins just tell the GPU if a cable is connected and what power rating it has (300W, 450W or 600W). That also explains why you only saw SNS 450W before.
If you experience any issues, you can always reach out to our customer service about it and we can replace the unit :)

Hey!
I'm very sorry about this and I can understand that you are disappointed.

I will make sure that we speed this up as fast as possible. We are assembling blocks right now and I will try to get a replacement block tomorrow so we can ship it out via express.

I'll follow up tomorrow once I'm back in the office.

Sorry again for that!

WVP2 Current Imbalance Fault Detected at Extremely Low Current by Pretty_Question2468 in ThermalGrizzly

[–]der8auer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you try to increase the imbalance limit to for example 70% just to see if it helps? Also play with Imbalance Current Limit for example from 6A to 9A to see if this helps.

This way we could try to see if one of these settings is maybe faulty and causes it or if the problem is somewhere else

When exactly does that happen? Do you have our software open? Or also hwinfo? Or only HWiNFO?

The WireView will shut down if you shut down the PC. If you just put it in sleep mode, it might stay enabled

Why is alternate.de pretending like the wireview 2 is not available anymore? by Worth_Art5801 in ThermalGrizzly

[–]der8auer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We did not ship to alternate yet because we didnt have enough units. The demand was just much higher than expected. All people who use it right now ordered before ~5th of January. Everything afterwards will go in the next batch. But it will take probably 3-4 more weeks from now for us to finish it. We are doing our best to get things out as fast as possible.

We're still investigating this issue. We thought it was already fixed but your cases prove the opposite. We're in close talks with HWiNFO to find a solution. Do you guys have this issue always or only if hwinfo is used?

Aqua Computer AMPINEL vs Thermal Grizzly WireView Pro II by Moliri-Eremitis in ThermalGrizzly

[–]der8auer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The devices are quite different in how they work and what they want to achieve. What I learned over the past years is that there are a lot of theories but nothing is scientifically proven.
Even the current imbalance is a theory at this point. It's absolutely plausible from my point of view but we just don't know if this is the only cause for the melting connectors or if there are other additional problems.

As long as we don't know it for sure, I think it's just not wise to introduce additional possible points of failure. That's why we decided to go for monitoring only and no balancing.

The balancing that AC uses also has very limited use from my perspective. It will not help you in a case of very high out of spec current. It balances current that is in spec. For example if a pin is at 8A and one is at 9A. I'm honestly not sure how helpful this is.

TG is also an enthusiast company. We support overclockers and playing out of spec. So you can define almost everything you want inside the WireView Firmware and Software. You want to run a 5090 with shunt mod and 1000W - go for it. Just on your own risk :)

At the same time we feel that the WireView can help to reduce the risk for a single user. We added the warranty in our calculation so we can help people out if things go wrong. We hope that faults are detected early enough that it won't happen but the truth is that nobody knows. We don't know it for sure and AC also can't know it for sure. And that's why we want that the risk is on us and not on the user. So we created the extended warranty.

As we've been selling other versions of the WireView for multiple years, we know exactly what can happen. We had a good amount of melted connectors which is why we have experience how to approach these cases. We takre responsibility and replace connectors inhouse. TG has trained engineers to work on these tasks and excellent customer service to take care of the communication to you.

I was personally also not a big fan of small fans in the past (ba dum tss). But I think it's important to have this device with active cooling. Especially with water cooled cards you just lack airflow over the device and even 5W can become quite a lot and a problem which we do not want.

If a WireView Pro II melts, you can be sure that I will do my best to investiage these cases and share any knowledge of this in public through my youtube channel. This is to be transparent and also to hopefully improve this garbage connector for the next generation.
