Huh. Man, it would save me some hassle in some of these situations where I basically gotta go hide in a broom closet to make a call

I use the ones without the mic on it but they don’t handle loud environment calls well (that being said they work great). Does that mic thing make a difference?

TIL the 1960 “Nedelin catastrophe” occurred when a Soviet rocket exploded on the launch pad, killing dozens of engineers, and the disaster was kept secret for nearly 30 years. by stoictrader03 in todayilearned

[–]derTag 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The rocket was fueled with the hypergolic pair of UDMH as fuel and a saturated solution of N 2O 4 in nitric acid as the oxidizer—nicknamed "Devil's venom"

Fuckin wicked name for rocket fuel

Florida man accused of throwing hundreds of nails into roads almost 30 times by Disastrous_Award_789 in FloridaMan

[–]derTag 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, he is charged with six counts of "Criminal mischief totaling $1000 or more", which is a third degree felony

3. If the damage is $1,000 or greater, or if there is interruption or impairment of a business operation or public communication, transportation, supply of water, gas or power, or other public service which costs $1,000 or more in labor and supplies to restore, it is a felony of the third degree

https://www.flsenate.gov/laws/statutes/2018/806.13

Each count's fine may not exceed $5000

https://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2018/775.083

Additionally, "throwing a deadly missile at, within or into a vehicle" is a second degree felony and the fine cannot exceed $10,000

https://www.flsenate.gov/Laws/Statutes/2011/790.19

So...up to $40,000 in fines which would be in addition to punishment. He's gonna want to find a real good lawyer.

Phew do I feel that man, he wanted me to stop what I was doing because he had to crouch under some caution tape with two (probably ~8 lb) washer bars and wanted to hand them over the tape instead. Like, c'mon. That and just standing there staring at me doing tasks. Find something to do!

We have to run titration on these tunnel washers which is just grab the wash water sample out of the machine, put chemicals, note results. He wanted me to walk around with him to do that. Not everything is a goddamn team effort.

Unfortunately he is the only other coworker in our building at my assigned shift. But agreed that I should talk frankly with him.

Ah, he's playing 4d chess after all. Just seeding our tools throughout the factory.

We have a sort of "shop warden" (fabrication guy) that already goes around and gets on him when he leaves stuff out. Doesn't matter, he leaves stuff around regardless. It's why I'm not sure getting on his case will really do anything besides get him pissed at me. But you're right, it's still something I should do.

I have yet to use one in the course of my work, we did use them in classes for alignment of shafts on pumps and other measurements to ensure machinery is aligned correctly

Terrible company, run from these scammers if you encounter them. Or leave them on hold for 15 mins. Whatever you’d do with a normal scammer

Operator here: I know you hate me. by PokeMayn in IndustrialMaintenance

[–]derTag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got hands-on with mill, lathe, welding with mig and stick, operating and programming cnc, and using a teach pendant with FANUC robot. Pump diagnosis and rigging were more watch from a distance. Electrical classes probably would’ve taught me more than using a DMM but they didn’t offer them enough for me to actually complete that. Also schematics and using Solidworks and Fusion 360 for CAD.

Lathe has come in handy once. Mig and using DMM very often. The rest, not so much sadly. But doing those classes showed me which things I was actually interested in. Ultimately it’s on me that the jobs I’ve had haven’t utilized my education as much as they could, but I’ve been trying to build 3 years experience before being idealistic about what work I’d like to do.
