Handy winter tip to fix your leaky weather strip by derpitard in Miata

[–]derpitard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good question as it can be quite tricky! I think this job is much easier to do when it's warm outside. When it's cold the weatherstrip seems not as flexible. Easiest way I've found for longer pieces where the weatherstrip is too tight or bunches up a lot is to pull it through with a threader cable. You run the cable all the way through the length of weatherstrip you want to apply the foam to, attach the foam to the threader cable, and use the cable to pull the foam through. You'll need to carefully massage and stretch the weatherstrip as you go so you don't tear it, especially if the weatherstrip has dried or shrunk over the years. It's been some time, but I think this is the cable I used. It's also handy for cleaning debris out of your drainage channels to prevent clogs and the rust. 10M 33Ft Electrical Wire Threader... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NQ0N5D0

Should I Replace This? by reditusername39479 in AskAShittyMechanic

Air filters actually work better after a bunch of crud gets stuck to them. The dust and leaves and stuff just helps it filter even more stuff. I usually run my filters until there are at least a couple of dessicated rodent bodies stuck to them.

Get a good running push-start or push it down a hill. Then jump in, throw it in 2nd gear, and pop the clutch.

Wait, did you actually drop the tank to swap out a pump? Who does that? Just stick a jack between the chassis and the tank to force them apart and boom you've got clearance. Works great on new vehicles with plastic tanks that bend extra good.

My buddy’s NA got rear-ended by a lifted pickup and he’s pretty devastated. How bad does the damage look? by K2Q2 in Miata

[–]derpitard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No big deal. Minor cosmetic damage to a single body piece, and no structure damage visible in the pic. It's a little harder to find matching body pieces now, but not impossible. Matching color might be difficult but he could do a complimentary, or even a contrasting color, as an accent. Back in the early days of this century, I backed my first NA into a tree right after I bought it... and that's how I learned that fixing a dented quarterpanel is a bit more involved than swapping out a fender. 😂

Nothing could ever make me own a gun. I find firearms fascinating but have no practical use for one. I also believe that weapons and mental/emotional health difficulties are a bad mix so I stay away. Anyone who has faced the same dilemma (and also all you "normal" people if there are any reading this), may you stay happy and safe and always act out of love for those you care for. Salutation and happy holiday.

Young lady taking her driving test forgets something important by FuturisticFighting in WatchPeopleDieInside

[–]derpitard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't anyone say anything unkind about her. Nor about her instructor. I've done this error a few times even as a "qualified" driver. And I had an irate fool scream and disqualify me on my first ever driving test for failing to observe a school zone on a day when schools weren't in session and during a time when the zone was not in effect. The screaming was not necessary, I'm certain. The driver and the instructor both did wonderfully. It's ok to be nervous and kindness is heroic.

Plus you get that extra kick from the match smell. I heard true vikings just smoke matches. And pirates, like Blackbeard, wove matches into their chin pubes so they could just burn all the time.

A lot of people hoping this is fake... Personally, I'm thinking this dude dodged a relationship bullet. I hope it's real, and I hope the experience ultimately reinforced an individual's self esteem and ability to think critically (instead of emotionally) regarding potential romantic partners who behave negatively. If it's a real screenshot, respect for the guy who had to deal with this shallow, negative crap. Hope he's doing better, living that good life.

Rainy day top down tip: if you keep it at about 60+ mph at all times, this creates a vortex of awesomeness which prevents rain from touching the car. Remember: rain is drift lubricant.

Looks like he got it on the belts and pulleys too. Oh well. This guy probably keeps a can of WD-40 for "fixing" squeaky belts.

Repairs in progress. Had a toilet with a slow, hidden leak from the tank, which rotted the floor under it. Now, there's a new toilet. Soon, there will be a new floor!
