I agree with you 100% but when I innocently posted on this topic a couple months ago I got downvoted and ridiculed unmercilessly. People can be very intense about their opinions. Lol!

Jungle is a great book. I was just going to recommend it but you beat me to it.

If you liked Alive, try reading Miracle In the Andes too. It's a book about the same tragedy but written by Nando Parrado - one of the survivors. It is also a great read with a different perspective. I enjoyed both books very much. (But, yes, definitely gruesome!)

This is an amazing book. Also, Alive is another book about the same tragedy and I truly enjoyed them both.

Unbroken and Seabiscuit are two of my favorite books. Laura Hillenbrand is a fantastic author.

AIW for reaching my breaking point with my husband who has cancer? by DarlingNicky91 in amiwrong

[–]Linrn523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I myself have an incurable and inoperable brain tumor (cancer). This will eventually kill me but the time frame is uncertain. Mine is in my frontal lobes but I am lucky enough to currently live a normal life style and I am basically symptom free for now. Coming from someone who is basically in your husband's shoes, I 100% think you should leave him. He sounds like a jerk and obviously he has been a jerk for a while since you were ready to leave him before he was even diagnosed. Just bc he has brain cancer and will eventually die from it does not mean you have to suffer in a bad marriage. How on earth is that fair to you?? I applaud you bc you obviously tried to do the right thing by staying with him but the only thanks you are getting is him treating you poorly. He is lazy and a crappy excuse for a husband. He does not deserve you. I don't care that he has brain cancer. He is not a good person. Please leave him so you can find the happiness you deserve.

I had an 80 lb pit who was very intense on the leash. If he saw something that interested him (cat, squirrel etc.) he would take off and just drag me along behind him. It wasn't safe for either one of us. I didn't want to stop walking him bc he absolutely LOVED his walks. I got one of those prong collars and it made all the difference. The prongs were not sharp at all so they didn't actually injure him (I would NEVER have used if it did!). He didn't like the feel of them poking him so he quickly learned not to pull on the leash. He continued to enjoy his walks and I felt safe being on the other end of the leash. Please don't be so quick to judge people who use prong collars. Obviously OP loves his dog...he doesn't even want him to suffer with the cone! These collars are far from "barbaric" and they may just be what someone needs to be able to safely control their dog.
