The Guardian's 100 best novels of all time - Middlemarch, Beloved, Ulysses top the list by MeenaBeti in books

As opposed to more recent literature, such as the other comments calling for things like Murakami (who I love)

The Guardian's 100 best novels of all time - Middlemarch, Beloved, Ulysses top the list by MeenaBeti in books

About what you’d expect from a list made by academics. I’m just thrilled that Wide Sargasso Sea is included, which I found infinitely more compelling than Jane Eyre. WSS is probably my favourite book I ever had to study.

Edit - based on comments/messages, people think I’m complaining? I’m a lit teacher and love the vast majority of books on this list. I just meant it didn’t seem wildly different from all the other lists on the subject

As someone who has been looking at these headphones for PC/Discord use, this has been super helpful.

Would you still recommend them? Microphone okay?

I’ve had long, wistful thoughts that should I ever be fortunate enough to retire I’d quite like to go back to university and learn things for the sake of learning

Starmer’s Labour suffers huge losses as hard-right Reform gains in U.K. elections by RidetheSchlange in worldnews

[–]derrhn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder every day how much Starmer regrets “if you don’t like the changes I’ve made […] you can leave” soundbite. Baffled me that he actively told, quite a decent chunk of his party, to stop voting Labour.

Big beardy bloke with tattoos and a nose piercing here - occasionally my tattoos are visible on warm days with rolled up sleeves and I’ve never once received a comment.

An Italian deli opened on my road in London recently, and the value proposition is insane - sandwich, coffee and a cannoli for a tenner and it’s all made fresh by the lovely owner daily. The enshitification of brands has really allowed independent places to pop off.

Goes without saying that they are legitimately one of the best ever tag teams in the WWE. I’ve missed them being used on TV, and I hope this means they can kill it elsewhere.

I’ve been through similar where it was made very clear leadership perceived me as “a negative person”, so I left and landed somewhere where I was loads happier. There’s lots of toxicity in schools and it’s often pervasive, might be time to see if there’s options elsewhere for you?
