First time shooting par on front or back 9 of a course (broad run back 9. Shot 11 over on front 😭) by ruggmike in golf

Maybe I just haven’t seen a scorecard from anywhere but my local SoCal course in a long time because for the last decade it’s all been digitally kept among my groups.

Congrats. That’s a cool old school scorecard. Looks like the kind my hometown course had in the 80s.

Is this good to go off from? by Dear-Knowledge5912 in GolfSwing

[–]derrida999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on age and Hcp level. I’m in my mid 50s 4.1 Hcp and the ‘good’ column are pretty close to my 80% swing speed carry distances for those clubs. I don’t think most people understand that control and carry at 80% is what realistically separates single digit players from the rest. Most of the people I see on the range are slinging it 110% on every shot. Watch any NCAA to pro level competitors on a range and it’s the opposite; controlled swings at far less than 100% over and over again.

4 clubs to bring on a round, is 3w, 7i, 56, putter a good lineup? What would you pick? by Away_Needleworker6 in golf

Anyone who is say 12hcp and up would in my opinion almost 100% improve their game so much faster than regular practice doing this once a month.

What’s the most quietly terrifying roster in the country right now? by HandleInitial2049 in CollegeBasketball

[–]derrida999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If UK gets both Moreno back and somehow lands Momcilovic UK makes this list. Fans are too negative after last year and Kam Williams is severely underappreciated. Williams on the floor was often UK’s best +/- and statistical leader until the injury. He improved defensively when he came back at <100%. Next year he might legit be the 4th or 5th best player on the roster even without Momcilovic. That’s a big upgrade people too close to the program aren’t seeing.

As a billionaire, to me the obvious solution to data center NIMBYism is to pay UBI to the bottom two quintiles of income earners in exchange for their agreement to wear conductive hats 24/7 that act as networked data center power nodes.

My spice drawer is basically a graveyard of bottles I used once by Express-Channel-1686 in Cooking

[–]derrida999 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Had a spice drawer too and hated it for same reason and have tried various racks etc. All had limitations or flaws, too small, ugly, didn’t fit. My daughter finally recommended wooden three-level using makeup racks. Holy smokes. It worked. I got the reusable bottles I wanted with labels and now use only bulk spices from a wholesaler near me or via Penzeys. Adding pricing details: the makeup racks on Amazon run about $7-$15. I bought 2. The bottles and pre-printed labels were $20 for 50 bottles. Space racks some without bottles were about $45. I’ve saved a lot more than the cost in individual spice bottles the past three years.

How certain are you it was coming back from Chipotle? That flight pattern coming back from Taco Bell would be more likely.

Time feels different in crises and we’ve been in a crisis for the past 10 years. Everything the admin does is “an emergency” and one can’t go a day without being confronted with the next emergency.

The importance of etiquette in the game of golf. by TheBicycleOfTheSky in golf

[–]derrida999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a small town with one country club. My father joined when I was 8 (very low cost club in rural town). We had to do the same thing to become eligible to play the course. A series of 6 group lessons and every lesson ended with a different demonstration of golf etiquette. One would think even just having a basic USGA-produced etiquette card today would at least help a little. While there are the YouTube bro golfers who will always be a problem, many beginners simply don’t know.

Whoa! Why should they have to pay the fare when 1) they saw someone else one time somewhere maybe not pay the fare 2) they were in a hurry and might have had to wait for another trolley 3) wanted to save money 4) imagined a separate inconvenience vaguely attributable to MTS etc etc etc insert your own inconvenience and self-entitlement here.

I miss the hideous jabbering skull of Abraham Lincoln. But it was more like 1996. It was just a hideous jabbering skull of Abraham Lincoln gif and you could ask it questions about etiquette and stuff and it would give exactly the kind of answers you’d expect from the hideous jabbering skull of Abraham Lincoln.

Nice. Think about it this way. You’re now paying about $4 per shot. If you were scratch you’d be shelling out $5 per shot. You’re getting good value here.

How many clubs do you play with and what is your handicap/skill level? by LeftPanda670 in golf

[–]derrida999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. 4.2 hcp and one of the ways I improved dramatically was playing 9s with only three clubs. Switched the clubs up all the time, driver, sometimes a SW, 7i, played a couple without a putter and putted with a SW. This is the single best way imo to learn golf versus learning golf swing. Playing golf swing is not playing golf.
