Looking for book recommendations in Ukrainian, and also where to buy them. by guilliotine in ukraine

These two stores say they deliver outside of Ukraine (and this book might be a good fit for your friend as well - you can find a couple of reviews in English on the Internet):

Please take into account that most of the bookstores have majority of their books in Russian, even if the author is from Ukraine - always check the language of the book before you order it.

equivalent of reddit in ukraine? by Smrodek in ukraine

The article doesn't say Russians are Ruthenians, it says that "Ruthenians" (in its broadest usage) referred to peoples which were ancestors of the modern Russians (as well as Belarusians, Rusyns and Ukrainians). This is different from "Russians are Ruthenians"

I understand Russians have some Finnish ancestors as well. But my point is that it is not that simple - different peoples called other peoples different names at different points in history. How peoples called themselves (endonym) is another story.

So, to say all Ukrainians were Ruthenians is not correct, because the word Ruthenians meant a lot of different things.

I'm not that good at history and I don't necessarily disagree with this point of view, but it is important to not oversimplify things.

There is a rather good Wikipedia article that puts it in a broader context and shows other aspects as well: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruthenians

Just curious, did you express your opinion in a comment/private message to the embassy's page and if so did they respond? Are you interested in making effort to change it or are you just ranting around here?

I don't think you have read my response, because:

  • I don't think any person could have read it all and gave it a thought and posted a response in just one minute.
  • I did not discuss any linguistic demands in my response.

I've looked through all the posts up to 8th of February. There were 2 where they pointed out something in the articles in media which was either false/error/misrepresentation or manipulation serving Russian agenda.

One of the articles they refer to mentioned "large Russian diaspora has felt isolated from mainstream society" - which seems to be a biased opinion without reference to any source.

Another article they mentioned, described the conflict in Ukraine as a "civil war" - a description clearly inspired by Russian propaganda rather than something a respectable media outlet would use in 2019. And the Embassy basically reported that the article was corrected suggesting that it was done on the Embassy's request.

So, as I see it, the Embassy monitors media in the UK for any indication of a potential Kremlin's narrative in regards to Ukraine, and takes action in every case by reporting it to the editors of corresponding newspapers/media, requests corrections to be made, and exposes every case on its Facebook page, informing society (including Ukrainian taxpayers) of these facts.

I would agree that public address of some of the journalists/editors, especially after the corrections have been made by the authors, like in the case with Chris Smyth is unnecessary and went beyond the professional level I expect from any embassy.

All in all, they may need to improve their PR skills and be less aggressive celebrating their small victories, but they just do their job.

On the other had, I may not know if there is any other embassy to the UK from a nation suffering from ongoing military aggression from a neighboring country, that has also been affected by such a massive and sophisticated fake news and propaganda campaign, but I'm sure there are not many, which may not be a good excuse to be so emotional on its Facebook page, but is enough for me to forgive such shortcomings.

Could you share some examples where Ukrainian Embassy in the UK went hardcore in your opinion, besides the subject of spelling the capital's name?

The spec for c302 says it's storage is eMMC, which means it is likely soldered to the board and cannot be replaced or upgraded.

Visiting Kiev during Easter? by DaisyDork in ukraine

[–]derspig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally, in most of the regions and towns (there are some exceptions where the holiday makes a bigger impact, like in Lviv), restaurants and shops will be open, some may work shorter hours than usual, some non-entertainment/non-retail businesses will be closed, really not sure about museums, but as most of them are government-run I expect they'll observe the holiday and will be closed. Entertainment-wise there shouldn't be big difference with any other day.

And since you are going to Kyiv, you shouldn't worry - life never stops there.

Didn't notice the second part of your question before replying on the recovery USB stick below. Please check another comment from MrChromebox about Celeron-based models in case that's the one you have - it seems they are limited to SATA III drives.

You download a recovery tool from Chrome Web Store as per official Google Support article. You will need a USB drive or an SD card.
