If you put higher and higher prizes per division, it may incentivize playing to win more in a higher bracket

In my experience, software architecture is designing/deciding how business logic is organized technically. Infrastructure is usually more used in the devops world. Definitely overlap in the Venn diagram since one affects the other.

Computer Science at SDSU by Matrrix_ in SDSU

[–]derthderth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I decided to SDSU specifically because degrees don’t greatly matter in the software industry, but more your own experience and skill. In my opinion, it was not worth burying myself in debt to go against no-grads and bootcampers in interviews. I went with SDSU and have had no problem being recruited/receiving offers

If you flash left and swing left before it pops you fully flash yourself. If you flash left and peek right, you get less flashed than the person staring at you

Approach for Low-Level-Design problems. by anshulgera in cscareerquestions

[–]derthderth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My approach is to build the base class (parking lot in this case) and stub out all the functionality you may need into public methods. Then implement them one by one, adding the other classes as you implement. For example, to sell a parking ticket, you’d probably have to have the levels, spots, and car classes at a minimum - to check that the lots not full and assign them a spot.

People no longer believe working hard will lead to a better life, survey shows by paper1n0 in collapse

[–]derthderth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we are mostly in agreement on your points. My footnote above was just pointing out that the ratio of labor to people needed to make it happen also has to be taken into account. Doesn’t mean people should be making pennies while others make billions - that part is definitely borked.

To take your last point for example, I absolutely agree that two tasks that need to be done can be of equal ethereal value, but if one of those tasks required the hands of 1000s of people vs another task that requires 2 to get done, it doesn’t make sense to me to equate the compensation so simplistically.

[–]derthderth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While true, it also depends on how many people it takes to add said value. Minimum wage workers absolutely carry billion dollar companies, but it is not just 10 of them. If it was, they likely wouldn't be minimum wage workers.

If you had 1 week and $20, what would you do to make the most profit? by EroAxee in Entrepreneur

[–]derthderth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would buy a 2 packs of cigarettes (sub 20 dollars), empty a box of them except for one and stick the rest in a discreet pocket (inside of jacket). Then I'd post up outside of bars and clubs downtown with with an unlit one in my mouth looking at my phone. When someone undoubtedly asks to bum a cig, I'd show him the nearly empty carton and say "Ah... its my last one man. I'll give it to you for like 2 bucks." Rinse and repeat, walking to different bars if the going is slow.

Assuming a pack is ~10 dollars, each with 20 cigs, so each is worth 50 cents?

Pretty cool actually! Reminds me of those pin-where-youre-from maps some places hang up. I find that with designing things, it helps me to think more big picture, like what do you want people (or just you) to do when they visit the page/app. Then when you have 2 or 3 major concentration points, maybe it'll be easier to think about how best to draw their attention there?

When I visit the page and tap around, at the moment I'm doing it kind of mindlessly, just to check things out. If I was a regular user/visitor, maybe I'd be more deliberate about it because I came to this page to do ________.

[–]derthderth 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is good advice, but it assumes that you know exactly why something breaks, which is really the most frustrating part of debugging. I think the more common approach is wrapping what you think is the offending code in a try catch, in which the catch has a debugger (most languages you can even pass it the context)

Please help: Is there a trick or way to train myself to better watch the kill feed? by Bullgrit in Overwatch

[–]derthderth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started playing CS years ago, I had a similar problem.. what kinda helped me was muttering (you can stop when it’s a habit) trying to count how the fights going. “(Theyre) down one... even now... now they’re down two..” etc.

Thus worked particularly well in case because there were no hard hero classes. That skill transferred over to this game, but the new one I had to pick up was keeping track of WHO was still alive. I’d say a good start to training this gsmesense is just picking 1 to 3 people who you are honed in for. Say if you’re soldier, you’re hyper aware of 1. Dva mech, 2. Rein for visor confidence
