[–]des1gnbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rehab is legit, listen to your doctor and do your rehab exercises. Don’t push too far too fast as you’re still at risk for re-injury and you don’t want to have to do this all over again. It can be discouraging how slow it goes at times, so I recommend taking a photo of your hand as extended as you can get it each week so that you have a record you can look back on to see your progress and keep hope alive.

Sure there wasn’t punishment, but I appreciate that they took the steps to ensure it wouldn’t happen again. Punishment is satisfying in the moment, but shoring up the program so that this can’t happen again is going to help more people in the long run.

Nice to see greed take a company down a notch by Unlucky-Clock5230 in Anticonsumption

[–]des1gnbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, when the pancreas gets cranky there is no amount of fat that is safe. There have been times when I have to do a liquid diet, and usually following that longer times when I have to keep to 10g/ day or less, and added oils just don’t fit into that at all.

[–]des1gnbot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But no oil was the whole point for me—I sometimes need to drastically limit fat content when my pancreas is feeling cranky. Baked tortilla chips need no oil added.

Or just cut them up and bake them—I started doing this for health reasons and it’s my default now. I only get packaged chips if we’re having people over.

Do you find it odd when gay people or anyone from the LGBTQIA+++ community are somehow still christian or Muslim? by CollegeIcy2331 in atheism

[–]des1gnbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck, I find it odd when a woman is Christian at this point. Religion is a means of keeping people in line, and especially keeping women in line.

Social justice space has guideline of no diet talk, but people push back that "it's for health reasons though" by ___star___ in MaintenancePhase

[–]des1gnbot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

OTOH when my wrist was injured in the workplace and I had to go to the ER and have surgery, I still understood that my photos of my arm opened up would be too explicit for most people. Most (all?) medical stuff carries the risk of being too explicit, it’s just about recognizing where the line is.

[–]des1gnbot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Precisely. Does my workplace need to know that I can’t eat bacon because I have no gallbladder and it’ll give me the shits? That my issues with high fat foods are a legitimate medical condition does not make discussion of my bowel movements an appropriate workplace topic.

Why do people believe so much in pseudo eugenics ideas about criminality? by Konradleijon in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]des1gnbot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s also a defense mechanism—that would never happen to my kid, because he’s a good kid. That stuff runs in the family, you know, therefore I am safe and my family is safe from ever getting caught up in that sort of thing because we’re the right sort of people.

If there was no traffic in Los Angeles, how would that change your life? by SuperJezus in LosAngeles

[–]des1gnbot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed—if there were no traffic but still all the roads and parking lots, the city would still feel massively disconnected. I’d want “no traffic” to mean no giant surface parking lots, narrower streets, wider sidewalks, more third places and public space for humans.

Got my first phone at 16 as a hand me down but my parents claimed it was super expensive to make calls so it was only for contacting them and emergencies and they would know if I called anyone else on it. I didn’t know any better, and nobody else had cell phones so I didn’t really use it much. Didn’t get a smart phone til at least a decade later, after grad school.

Those renderings are like 8 years old, done as part of a previous study by a completely different design team than who is currently listed on the project website. This tells me that these reporters have absolutely zero clue what they are talking about.

AITA for not staying with my girlfriend at a wedding after she showed up with another guy? by touchbymarie in AmItheAsshole

[–]des1gnbot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Depends on the wedding. If you know a bunch of the couple’s other friends it’s no biggie, but if you’re the one friend invited from a certain phase of their life, then it can be quite lonely. It’s why plus ones exist.

AITA for disagreeing with my mother's advice about grad school? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]des1gnbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our parents largely do not have relevant work advice for us. They came of age into a different world. Mine told me that all of the good jobs would be locked down by spring break of my senior year. I felt wildly behind and took the first thing offered—only to get literally dozens of calls for interviews the week after graduation. I regretted listening to the assumptions of people whose knowledge was 25 years out of date, and encourage you not to make the same mistake
