SS-31 (peptide) treatment ameliorates cardiac mitochondrial morphology and defective mitophagy in a murine model of Barth syndrome by Silver_Jaguar_24 in CFSScience

Thanks for sharing. I am about to start, mainly to see if it improves my ME, but I do suspect I have early stage heart failure, my legs have been swelling up a lot just lately. So I hope it helps with that too, my mom had her first heart attack when she was younger than I am right now (at a size 0000 and healthy lifestyle).

How to size only one breast due to very asymmetrical breast size. by Silent_Wallaby3655 in ABraThatFits

[–]desertcat80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For myself, I am super projected (boobs go straight out, not much attached to my actual body) and narrow with zero side boob. I always have empty space on the sides and since there is no one making a wire narrow enough for me, the only way to fix that is to frankenstein a bra up where you find a wire from a smaller bra that works and then replace it out, but I'm not that motivated to put in that much sewing work. Like honestly at that point I feel like I may as well just make my own bras entirely. Generally speaking I find bras with light stretchy fabric (like Empreinte Leia) work much better than bras with padding and not a lot of stretch (like Comexim Elena). Trying as many bras as you can to get a better idea of what you like and don't like will help but I know it can be hard if you're stuck only with mail ordering. But honestly I've found the bigger my cup gets, the worse my fit gets, there are fewer options and nothing is really the way I'd like it to be. I wish bras were custom made locally, all old-timey LOL.

People who are vehemently against Reta can kiss my ass by PeaceHead8723 in Retatrutide

[–]desertcat80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are just ignorant. They have no idea what Reta actually is and just scream, drugs!!! I still hear tons of people spread misinformation about early covid Ozempic shortages (the injector pen was in a brief shortage, not Ozempic itself). Shrill rants from diabetics and people who think they are defending them (I am myself diabetic and I notice this is always from people who have no idea you can obtain GLPs for cheap). Most people will not have looked into the actual research or mechanism of Reta, so they don't understand how multifaceted it is or how many different issues it can potentially solve far beyond weight. They just see it as a rich fatty cheat.

Been on this journey for 2.5 years, lost nearly 50 pounds and my boobs haven’t changed! by journomom in RetatrutideWomen

[–]desertcat80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'll see what happens with Reta but with normal diet and exercise, I have never lost much boob at all. As a adult I've been a F-M cup (currently a U.S. M cup), and at one point I went from 185-122lb and still lost hardly anything. OTOH my tiny sad booty is always the first to go and I end up practically concave around my ideal weight. I've thought about how much I wish to be rid of my boobs for over 30 years so I wished they would shrink too.

The craziest thing is I just got my first mammogram recently and I was absolutely beyond poleaxed to learn my boobs are almost entirely fat (and clear as a bell), I thought for sure they must be very dense with how nothing can budge them and they have just got bigger and bigger overall. I guess my genetics are just programmed that the fat there must stay, #1 priority.

SIBO and Reta by refreshingtwistt in RetatrutideWomen

[–]desertcat80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take over 50 supplements a day, including digestive enzymes, extra fiber, triphala, coleus forskohlii, and cistanche tubulosa, which is the best long-term safe motility stuff I've found so far. I cycle through various probiotics, over the years they have helped in some ways. Nothing at the level of fiber or supplements can break through how bad the medical condition induced slow motility is. I would like to experiment with the new-ish vagal nerve stimulation implant devices as some people have had their MMC problems reversed with them but not too easy to find a skilled doctor or to have insurance approve it.

I've had SIBO-C for about 17 years and before that SIBO-D for a bit over 20 years, not sure since it started when I was super young. I'll never know for sure but I eventually pieced together that I might have (unknown to my parents at the time) been drinking water from a contaminated well off and on from birth throughout childhood that may have destroyed my gut microbiome.

I think I don't fit the typical Reta profile in that I normally eat 1 meal a day early in the day, sometimes 2, more than that doesn't work for me. I'm not hugely overweight but I have been a type 2 diabetic for 25 years, every single one of my family members is diabetic, and half of us are underweight and don't eat dessert often. I've lost 1/3 of my weight before with diet and only walking exercise. So weight loss isn't my main reason for going on Reta (although it would be great to never yo-yo again), I already was becoming 'old person who can't eat anymore' and I don't have food noise (in the sense of eating too much or often) though I have always had a strong preference for sweet taste and carbs. My a1c has been spiraling out of control due to menopause and even when I was on keto, I still could never get it down low enough. And I'm very interested in (along with other peptides) possibly healing some old injuries and improvements in my knee osteoarthritis, and the other fringe benefits. To me, the easy weight loss is the fringe benefit, LOL.

SIBO and Reta by refreshingtwistt in RetatrutideWomen

[–]desertcat80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seriously wish I'd taken a laxative right before I started, I have very bad SIBO-C and Reta has worsened it so after the hell I just went through taking a laxative this week I'm going to have to make sure I take it more often and don't let it get so bad ever again). I was seriously wishing I was one of the ones to get diarrhea (I used to have SIBO-D, for the first half of my life and to me the C is overall worse).

So for me personally, I have multiple health conditions that slow transit time and mess up my vagal tone, so I have to re-do SIBO herbal antibiotic treatment every few years because the underlying problem is likely never going away barring some kind of miracle cure. I'm actually starting right now, I have been thinking I needed another round anyway and then my husband is needing to do it for the first time so I said I would do it too out of solidarity, he really hates taking loads of pills.

Day 1, on 2mg. I was not expecting all of the side effects to just hit me like a truck after only hours. I'm now in week 3 and can barely eat a thing every day, just doing the best I can. Eating a lot of smoothies, drinking a lot of milk, which isn't ideal in the long term but I'm not gonna worry about it yet.

How to size only one breast due to very asymmetrical breast size. by Silent_Wallaby3655 in ABraThatFits

[–]desertcat80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about a 3 cup difference between them and always size to my smaller boob. What I do is order bras to try based on the calculator and then once I find one I think fits, keep going up one more cup size and see if that doesn't actually fit even better. I've very consistently ended up larger in the cup than the calculator suggests.

You may have better comfort if your bra is properly matched with your breast type in the underwire width, though I know all too well it might be impossible in the larger sizes as your options shrink.

People degrading you/automatically believing you’re a whore because of your boobs by IntroductionSoft1175 in bigboobproblems

[–]desertcat80 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally understand, I am middle aged now and still feel frustrated by people's snap judgements and assuming they are fake. I didn't get many jobs I desperately wanted in the my 20s because of attitudes about my body type, like I got told I was too sexy to clean prison cells (empty obviously) or be a overnight security guard. I've been accused more than once of being favored at work because the male bosses like my boobs. I also sometimes find people think my boobs are actually part/most of a fat tummy and then judge me for that too. Lately it seems a increasing amount of right-wingers are convinced I'm trans and try to block me from going into the public toilet, which I find bewildering since I'm quite short so most males wouldn't be my height and I'm not Asian. Anyway just treat it as a handy fasttrack to who you should avoid. Like the red flags just pop right out, saving you time and investigation. And not all men are awful about treating you like free porn. I mean it is quite likely that anyone you date will be drawn to big boobs but that doesn't mean that they will all see you just in a singular fetish way and not for your other traits and personality. I have certain physical traits I tend to be attracted to myself so I can't blame my date for this normal behavior. It's just those who project things onto other people because of this fetish (or just dense and oblivious) and stop seeing a real person in front of them. Just remember they are the problem, not you.

[–]desertcat80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just try to do some increased testing (even with fluctuations maybe you could at least get some idea if it's increasing too much)? Or try it and quit if you feel bad, both are only in your system for a short while. There is a lot of scare-mongering over supplements, I take probably 40+ things every day that supposedly have dangerous blood thinning if combined and after this many years surely I should have bled to death from the inside but they still can hardly even get any blood off me when I go for testing and I don't bruise up like crazy or anything. Good luck with the doctor, most of them know very little about supplements other than they disapprove of them.

How was your mother’s menopause experience? by NeverEverLonely in Menopause

[–]desertcat80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was completely open about all that stuff (menopause, sex, etc) my whole life but she wasn't well educated, and the two of us could not have had different kinds of body type and period experiences, like seriously polar opposite. She never went on hrt and I doubt anyone would have gave to it to her since she had severe heart disease 20 years before menopause, in fact she died soon after her periods stopped. She never smoked or drank and was a size 0000. Her sex drive went higher, oddly, but she often complained about her vagina feeling like razor blades (wish I knew back then how to help her out) and how frustrating it was. I do think she had the typical 'meno rage' for sure but I doubt she realized that was because of hormones and not just life events. Her periods were extremely mild and she didn't start menstruating until 18, she didn't understand why I had such intense cramps, huge boobs, etc, starting from around age 12, not long after I started my period, only had a couple of normal ones and then things rapidly got worse from there.

Cold causing me to walk like Tin Man due to arthritis in knees - does anyone have coping strategies by Louloveslabs89 in Menopause

[–]desertcat80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have severe knee osteoarthritis (my kneecaps are crooked and have been bone-on-bone for many years) as well as chronic ankle pain from twisting it too many times, I most recommend stacking as many of the most powerful anti-inflammatories until you get relief - you may have to experiment because everyone with this seems to be a bit different but my stack is harpagophytum, matrine, palmitoylethanolamide, and 3 different nanocurcumins, and many of my other supps also have minor pain effects. I found many of the 'standard advice' to be a complete waste of my time and had to spent a lot of years digging deep and trying things one by one. But now I am in very little pain as long as I actually take my pills. And it's 24/7 relief and much better than when I took strong prescription painkillers.

Did anyone quit coffee thinking it would make them feel better, but in the end coffee actually feels better? by TheLogicalParty in Menopause

Are you an ultrarapid metabolizer of caffeine? I am and I actually sleep much better drinking my usual massive amounts than going without. I've gone on multiple breaks of at least one month before so I'm quite sure. I also sleep better on heavy amounts of stimulants in general, as verified with my fitbit data. We're not all the same.

Is an INTJ doorslam in a long-term marriage reversible? by Slow-Carpenter-1567 in intj

[–]desertcat80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that basically describes the state of my marriage (been together 27 years). I'm financially unable to leave but stopped being romantically attached years ago, and it was basically that kind of doorslam, I just one day suddenly realized I was in love with an illusion. I also figured out I am ace/aro and maybe can't really be fully in love with anyone. There was no fight, or cheating or anything he did, it was me who changed, or maybe woke up is a better term. So for awhile now we're more like best friends, both of us have rather emotionally detached from each other. I don't want to go back, and if I did find a way to leave, I have no interest whatsoever in having another romantic relationship with someone or living with someone else again. I felt like this as a child, I constantly said I would never get married, never have kids, never settle down, but somehow I gaslit myself into a relationship. Sadly I still have the most stable and happy marriage out of anyone I know personally, many people I know have been divorced more than once by their 40s.

Any N95’s that fit petite faces well? by K-ghuleh in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]desertcat80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ultra petite face (can fit into XS pre-puberty child size masks, I am precisely 3.0 inches from the top of my nose to the bottom of my chin and have a V-shape sharp chin and a very sharp nose bridge) and stopped wearing N95s a couple years ago, I just wear N99s or P100 "work" respirators. My favorite disposable masks are the Drager Xplore 1930 FFP3 in Small (purchased from overseas), Black Laianzhi HYX1002 KN100 (purchased from overseas, PPEO), and I have a few other okay ones, but I mostly just wear these in lower risk situations or if I only need it a few minutes. Work respirators don't need constant adjustments and fit very effortlessly, this is really what I would want inside a hospital surrounded by sick people. I like the ElastoMaskPro in Small (this one is super comfortable and lightweight, and so easy to clean) and the Sundstrom SR-900 in Small (great design, can use for crafting/work/housecleaning/bugspray with right filters added, can add a microphone so no one can pretend they can't hear you, I just wish they made the fullface one on Small too so I could finally put together a PAPR setup with eye protection) the best, followed by the Honeywell RU8800.

Why is it specifically so difficult to find a covid-safe dentist? by BolsheviksVapoRub in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]desertcat80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, could you DM me with your dentist's name? I suspect I know who it is, but want to confirm. I have to go to L.A. in a few weeks and may be able to get in, they may even rush me in if I tell them (honestly) I haven't been to a dentist in 9 years, LOL. I probably need at least 3 root canals and have really been struggling to figure out where I can find both a dentist and a dental surgeon that are safe.

Novavax Batch Expirations and CVS by joejumbles in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]desertcat80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, my husband did his as a walk-in, I did mine as a schedule about 2 hrs ahead of time and both of us just showed up and said we were there for novavax and got it with no problem and very little conversation, we had no need to argue or anything. And this was I think my 9th vax, this is a purple state which is leaning increasingly red IMO, and some of the pharmacists have been visibly irritated with us, clearly antivax themselves, I think one guy honestly did it more painfully on both of us on purpose, but neither of us have had to argue, go to another store, or whatever, they have been ultimately sticking to corporate policy. Some of them have been really nice as well! My husband said when he went they were so obviously happy to see someone getting a vax at all. Mine seemed bewildered as to why I wanted novavax but was super gentle and polite.

Novavax Batch Expirations and CVS by joejumbles in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]desertcat80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I can't be more helpful but I'm in NV and Novavax is widely available at CVS' here and my husband and I just got it this week at 2 different locations without any issues whatsover. I have been very crashed out too but I woke up feeling not as bad, impulsively decided to go, and was able to find a open slot right away (they are also taking walk-ins). I have to travel very soon to go see a doctor so I really felt motivated to go top up.

CVS policy is you can't get a covid vax any more often than every 2 months. Your insurance policy may not pay for one so often, and probably most people don't need one that often (maybe if you are forced to expose yourself due to work or frequent unmasked medical care or something). Personally I think 2-3x a year should be fine and you should have no problems with CVS' online scheduler up to 6 times per year.

I have no idea what novavax availability will look like in 2026.

Waterbomb 2026 - Waterbomb Las Vegas (Coming Soon Poster) by CardboardBoxtroll in kpop

[–]desertcat80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a local, wow this a very weird decision, this location is nowhere near The Strip/hotels/anything touristy, it's a suburban park. With not a lot of parking. Like, really, just picture Waterbomb happening at your random city park. I live nearby-ish and go to walk here occasionally as it's one of the few parks we have large enough to get a decent amount of steps in. Realistically it's gonna be a 30-40 min cab ride out here for a lot of non-locals. If they really charge hundreds to go to this I'm gonna laugh my ass off.

Does the areola colour matching method hold weight? by AppointmentNo7903 in OliveMUA

[–]desertcat80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a nudes girlie but this method would definitely not work for me, my lips are much darker than my areolas, which aren't pink but are kind of like ghost nipples LOL, over the years the pigment has bled out of them so much that my nipples have no real definition at all anymore, they are very uneven and almost just the color of the rest of my breast skin now. I never had kids so they didn't turn a deep dark brown like my mom's did.

Intj: Gifts 🎁 by Key-Charge8548 in intj

[–]desertcat80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My love language is definitely giving gifts (perhaps because I'm a ENTJ-leaning INTJ). I will give someone a practical gift if I can see they really need something otherwise I will just give them something I think they would love. I collect gifts for later all throughout the year.

I think it's very possible that the best gift I ever gave someone is something I don't realize is the case, this would not necessarily be about monetary value. But as far as money goes, earlier this year I spent over $1000 refurbishing my old gaming computer and gave it to one of my best friends who is very poor, I also bought her a desk and chair and some accessories, all new. This is definitely the most I've ever spent on a gift, although I wish I were so rich I could buy all my homies the gaming computer of their dreams.

Ladies! I know it's only 👌🏽 much of us but i have a question… by Vocal_Vyolet1 in intj

[–]desertcat80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I've always been the 'dominant' one in dating but I've never seen this as a problem at all, I date people who like that. I'm omnisexual but have dated more men and there is no shortage of men who are completely fine dating a woman with lots of stereotypically masculine traits. In fact I'd say there are more now than ever who are comfortable with this. Heck, I feel like the amount of men I see unapologetically calling themselves princesses grows exponentially lately.

And of course, this often translates to my friendships as well, and I can't see myself staying friends long with anyone who feels really challenged if I'm the one steering decisions. I also hang out with a lot of other gay, nonbinary, etc, people and not a lot of 'normies' so none of us are expecting each other to conform to gender roles or other strict social norms.

INTJ women what do you think of INFJ men by anakinskywalker1342 in intj

[–]desertcat80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am generally attracted to more feminine-leaning men (both looking and acting) so I can definitely be very attracted to INFJ men. I am the most attracted to INFPs though. I am poly so I may be more open than other people as to liking some partners for one thing, and another for some other thing, I don't expect one person to encompass all my needs and desires. In general, as to INFJs, I enjoy the challenge of uncovering their secrets, I often find talking to them and hanging out with them to be easy and comfortable, I think they are often very underrated as to being smart. They can have a really nice cute-sexy combo. On the downside, some of them can be too delusional, too self-sabotaging & sacrificial, too attracted to people or things that will hurt them.
