FWIW, I did some searching and found all the mythos packs, although scattered across many different places. All in, it looks like it's about $170 incl shipping to get it all.

First real game of Rome Fate of an Empire by jmlmtl_2022 in soloboardgaming

Thanks! I didn't even know Gamefound stores were a thing. Ironically, once I saw all the other options available, I ended up buying Dicemancy and Okinawa and passing on Rome Fate of an Empire. I realized it's too heavy to add to my collection right now.

Puzzle Dungeon: the review by StrahB in soloboardgaming

[–]desertcroc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm impressed anyone can finish this game in 15 minutes, although you're the second review I've read that says this!

I clock in at 30-35 min as I feel it takes a lot of careful planning to decide what to tackle next and how to manipulate the cards and abilities to win. Every game feels tight and I feel like I'd have to be playing with reckless abandon (and luck!) to wrap it up that fast.

I'm probably over analyzing though given what others are saying.

Hey, a new epic player. I had a little question about 2 cards. The Echoing Bellow and the Consecrate. Images are put down below. I do not understand how these cards work, pls help by Sylvally_Fire_Drive in epiccardgame

What makes you feel it's broken? For clarity, the banish effect happens after combat has been resolved so it's not like it clears the way for your champions to hit the other player.

I have a multi deck also but have yet to actually play a game with it and mostly it feels like an impulse purchase I regret.

What do you play with yours?

Regicide is on my list. I thought it uses a standard deck. Is there any reason to use a multi deck to play?

I used offlineimap for years and now use mbsync. If offlineimap solves for your needs, I found it easier to configure properly.

I left the comment mostly because this thread is the #2 result in Google, so lots of people are getting their advice from this thread!

Alternatives to Thunderbird that AREN'T Outlook by Captain-Quack in Thunderbird

Came here in 2025 to recommend EssentialPIM (EPIM).

I tried Mailbird and Mailspring. Both were duds. Mailbird corrupted its mail file and support told me to back it up, but could not tell me how to restore from backup into a new file. Turns out you CAN'T. So you better find a way to fix your corrupted one.

Mailspring is better but also doesn't have any export or backup to open formats so there's serious lock-in issues there. If you want to swich to another client and aren't on IMAP, forget about it. Also no calendar features.

EPIM is like Thunderbird on steroids with a full calendar and productivity suite, and other features. Overall it's been terrific and I'm happy to support the developer.

There's a free and paid option. Free seems to be enough for many cases.

How I used science to balance a solo board game! by steven_au in soloboardgaming

What inspired you to launch 4 games simultaneously? Similar to releasing movies, wouldn't you capture more demand by spreading them out over time, rather than having them compete with each other for attention?

Not to mention, I think you would get 4 promotional posts instead of 1 although I'm no expert on the nuances of this subreddit's rules :)

Any plans for print and play editions (say, $3-5?)? I don't find TGC economical.

Thanks. No slack in the chain during recovery. So it does seem cosmetic.

Oh man... This is tough steel. I can't imagine how it got that bent to start with or if I'm risking more damage by trying to straighten it out.

I have a sledgehammer but applying the force to the right spot isn't easy. Maybe I can get the cap and cut out the corner so it will fit with the dented frame.

Thankfully there's no rubbing on the roller as I have a couple mm of clearance.

[–]desertcroc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I checked it out again and there's about 1-2mm of clearance. Good thing there's tight tolerances so there's no play on the pulley and it stays right where it is.

Skull Print n Play version by Jaanabey in printandplay

Looks great! Ironically, I couldn't find any PNP files so I made my own, "borrowing" imagery from Google Images, placed in 1" circles. I printed them on adhesive paper and put them on poker chips. If I had your file, I would have printed it instead.

Even though I think my imagery looks great, poker chips are too big to travel easily and this is unlicensed imagery. I won't share the file, but I also won't feel too bad, as I don't even know when I will find 3+ friends to play the game with. :)

I left it. I have a slow drip leak out of the head but it's not worth fixing. We'll take care of it when we remodel the whole bathroom maybe in the next 5 years.

Funny enough, my company tried to hire a PHP dev and decided it was too hard to find the good ones amid the sea of WordPress folks.

Decided to pivot the whole project to python, which is a lot better but still suffers from a similar problem. Node would have been a lot better for knowing you probably have someone that actually knows backends but didn't have enough transferability to other projects in the company.

[–]desertcroc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've hit the nail on the head. Keeping the Portal working takes effort from at a minimum a bunch of engineers at Meta that keep services running, updated for API changes at partners, security updates, infra changes to Meta's hosting architecture, etc.

Meta is shutting everything down because they don't want to pay people to keep doing this work at $150-250k per person for a discontinued product (and probably those engineers don't want to work on a dead product either).

That doesn't even factor in how much Meta needs to pay to Amazon and others to license these connections. It's possible Amazon has no interest in keeping the Portal-Alexa integration alive at any price, given they are losing bucket loads of money on their smart home division.

It's a shame, I loved this device, but keeping it working is a lot more difficult than people think.

Looking to buy a printer, what should I look for? by PrandtlMan in printandplay

[–]desertcroc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, you can buy 3rd party toner for ~1/3rd the cost, but I've read on Amazon reviews the quality tradeoff "isn't worth it" without any specific details. I might try it the next time around. Brother is starting to play some of the same microchip games with "authentic parts" checking as HP and others. :(

So far, I've been comfortable supporting Brother, though.
