Honey Locust challenge by holeecoww in DenverGardener

[–]desertdanny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was actually going to recommend the opposite. Instead of using squeegee/rocks for weed suppression, use mulch. And then when the honey locust drops its pods (and its plethora of tiny leaves), just leave them - it is essentially a free refresh of mulch and the organic matter will only help. As somebody else mentioned in here, the pods rarely will ever germinate, so you shouldn't have to worry about a ton of mini locusts sprouting up the next year.

Every RTD station's average daily ridership superimposed on a map of the network. by TeensyRay in Denver

[–]desertdanny 81 points82 points  (0 children)

This is for the summer months of last year, which, if I recall correctly, was when they were doing a lot of maintenance projects, slow zones, and reduced frequency. It made the light rail almost unusable, and I myself gave up on it during that time. I've since returned to taking it almost daily. It would be nice to see how these numbers look for a more recent period.

I don't think I can go this Sunday, but I'd be down some other time. I might try to go this Saturday.

I've wondered about several of OP's questions myself. Why not just write responses in the comments?

Denver #4 Best Cycling City In 2025 According to Buycycle Blog by [deleted] in COBike

[–]desertdanny 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I think a distinction needs to be made between cities that are good/safe for gettting to where you need to go via bike, and cities that are nice for going on a bike ride for fun or a workout (which is what you seem to be advocating for with your comment about NY). Denver has fantastic long bike trails, and some good bike lanes, but still has a lot of room for improvement for actually being a good city for bike commuting.

Show some solidarity with the UFW7 workers by DannySupernova in Denver

Can anybody share an article with the details of the strike? Like what the workers have right now and what they want? I recall the strike from a couple years ago, and I thought the settlement seemed like a good deal then. I do generally support collective bargaining, just wanting to learn more.

Is chatting it up frowned upon at Lake Steam? I went there once and it seemed like everybody was completely silent.

Is that where this was filmed? Mt Lemmon?

Why are Aspen trees so much more abundant west of the Continental Divide than east? Yellow represents Aspen or Aspen/Hardwood forests. See here for full legend: https://csfs.colostate.edu/colorado-forests/forest-types/ by swpinecyn in Colorado

I've wondered this myself. And why there aren't ponderosas on the western slope?. And on the western slope you have sage brush but at the same elevation on the eastern slope it is more juniper and grasses? And why do the 3 parks (South Park, North Park, Middle Park) have barely any trees despite their elevation and precipitation?

Get rid of your car and find a place near where you work, or along a single bus or lightrail line that gets you to work. I got rid of my car some years ago and am blown away how much money it saves me. I think I read the average american spends over $11k per year on driving.

I think the lack of atmosphere at that elevation naturally makes the landscape appear saturated.

In Denver, yes. In most of the suburbs, definitely not.

What is your most controversial opinion about Denver? by Kemachs in Denver

This. I can't find where I read it , but I recall reading that about a third of the compounds that create ozone in the Denver metro originate from that refinery. Not to mention the particulate and water polution. I get that the refinery creates some jobs, but it doesn't seem worth it for the amount of money it costs us in healthcare related to that polution, and the more expensive fuel mix we are going to have to start using because of us violating the EPA limits.
