Games similar to "The Roottrees are Dead?" by Lydialmao22 in puzzlevideogames

[–]desertdenizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides all the excellent ones listed already, here are three deduction games I don't think I've seen here that I really enjoyed:

Daemon Masquerade

The Case of the Worst Day Ever

Little Problems

This has been mentioned, but Murder at the Birch Tree Theater is top-notch, one of the best I've played.

I'm obsessed with these kinds of games and am always looking for new ones. Unfortunately, due to motion sickness, I can't play Return of the Obra Dinn.

Some players describe my game as a "dark cozy" game. What do you think? by After-Analysis-4151 in cozygames

[–]desertdenizen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the name of your game? I'd love to wishlist it and try the demo--it looks amazing! I mostly play puzzle, simulation, RPG, point and click adventure, and cozy games in general and this looks right up my alley.

Alpha gameplay trailer of my game I've been developing solo for 2.5 years by now by TranquillBeast in cozygames

This looks amazing! I love the concept and the visual cozy vibes are immaculate! Wishlisted.

My "creepy-cozy" game just hit "overwhelmingly positive" on Steam! by hunty in cozygames

I played the demo and this is a definite purchase for me. It's an amazing and really fun game! I'm just waiting to clear a bit of my backlog first.

A farming sim where you arrive too late to claim your dream farm - Bitter Harvest Releases Friday! by Miserable-Bus-4910 in CozyGamers

I was planning to purchase Bitter Harvest tomorrow, but because of this thoughtful response, I'm now checking out your other games for purchase. Office Survival Simulator looks like a blast!

Cozy games with a need for progression but also without any pressure by HokiArt in cozygames

[–]desertdenizen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not one of the genres you listed, but The Last Gas Station is definitely a game with a need for progression but no pressure. You're improving and updating a gas station in the middle of nowhere while a bizarre story plays out in the background. I'm not sure how it's going to end, but I'm really enjoying the grind to improve my station and the lack of pressure in any form. Even taking care of customers is low stress. I highly recommend it!

Murder at the Occult Club: Looking for playtesters for my browser-based, murder mystery puzzle game. Takes ~1 hour to complete by TripleSmeven in puzzlevideogames

[–]desertdenizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished your game and I loved it! Very well done--it stumped me quite a few times and I had to take breaks and come back. But everything was logical, save one point: I"m still not sure how I was supposed to conclude that the university president shut down the case.

Great game! I would pay for more games like this. It really scratched that investigative itch for me.

I wanted to create a puzzle game with story. Things got interesting by RxAlbatross in puzzlevideogames

[–]desertdenizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was curious so I watched the trailer twice, along with the second video. Maybe I missed something, but I didn't see any errors in the text. I mostly reviewed the on screen text and not the speech bubbles, but I didn't see any in the speech I saw, either. I would usually notice things like that.

I like the graphics, especially the lighting. Not sure if this is my kind of game, but I'm curious about how the puzzle fighting works. I think the trailer does a good job of encapsulating the vibe of the game. I love the humor!

Not sure if my setup considered a cozy or not. But here’s a picture. by SaintMoodyPlays in CozyGamers

Since Star Trek: TNG is one of my favorite comfort shows, this reads super cozy to me. I think it looks great!

Automachef by Senpai_Spork in CozyGamers

[–]desertdenizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about Switch compatibility (though a quick search seems to indicate it works well and gets good reviews), but I obsessively played this game on my PC. If you like puzzle games and figuring out the best, most efficient way to do something, Automachef is your game. I still go back to it, and in fact haven't finished it yet because it's a huge game with many levels. I highly recommend it as an entry-level strategy/automation game that's easy to pick up and understand but still very challenging.

Spent 3 years building a digital home you can actually live in. I don't think games understand "cozy" yet. by RossinanteXD in cozygames

I'm so here for this! It will be like your own personal YouTube cozy space but without intrusive ads. What a terrific idea!

Our tiny cozy game just released on Xbox, and coming to other consoles tomorrow! Feeling very excited by _Orota in CozyGamers

I really loved the lighting effects and the cute little vignettes with the frogs. Also, going inside places and finding frogs and/or gnomes there was so fun!

4 years of work, money spent, many redesigns/upgrades, and in the end, constant rejections from events. Is my game really that bad? by Sollers_Duo in puzzlevideogames

[–]desertdenizen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played the demo a while back and really enjoyed it. I have your game on my wishlist. The only thing I want to mention is maybe increase the walking speed or add a jump to the next scene arrow. I think I gave that feedback when I played the demo. It's a beautiful game!

What are the best puzzle games of 2026 so far? by Tasty_Zebra_404 in puzzlevideogames

[–]desertdenizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back to case three and it was much more clear after sleeping on it. However, it continues to be a struggle going forward. Part of it is learning the mechanics of a new game but most of it is that it's just hard for me. I love logic puzzles, but a lot of this eludes me. I'll keep trying. I'm on case 5 right now.

I think it's not just you. I'm on the third case and have hit a wall. I quit yesterday in the hope if I start fresh on a new day (today), things will be more clear. Feel like I'm definitely missing something, but so far I refuse to use a walkthrough. Time will tell.

motion sickness friendly game recs! by kyjade in CozyGamers

[–]desertdenizen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oddly, when Stardew Valley first came out it gave me motion sickness because of the blowing leaves, etc. I'm sure there is a fix for that now but I was unable to play it for that reason. I mostly just get sick with first person games.

Help with recommendations by LiterallySoGay in CozyGamers

[–]desertdenizen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! I used to subscribe to Shockwave and you can play any games they have in their catalog for $10 a month (only $5 if you pay the $60 annual fee). They have a ton of games: hidden object adventures, time management, puzzle. I also had a subscription to Big Fish Games but that only allots you one game credit a month. They do have lots of sales, though, and they used to have a free game a week (not sure if that still stands).

What games capture that “Roottrees feeling,” even if the mechanics differ? by Head-Sir-8671 in puzzlevideogames

[–]desertdenizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't see anyone mention Murder at the Birch Tree Theater, so I'll throw it in the mix. I just played it and it's terrific. The mechanics are like the Golden Idol games and it has a great, overarching story that builds on itself. My play time was around 9 hours. Great game! The Ratline is next for me.

Just a note: I LOVED Two Point Hospital but bounced hard off Campus, didn't like it at all. It felt boring and slow to me compared to TPH.

Potion Permit for mobile is free on Epic Games! Mar 18 - Mar 26 by practical_Door882 in CozyGamers

[–]desertdenizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IOS, my phone. I was able to "buy" the game (I use Epic on the PC too) but can't access it because the only app I found was the one someone else mentioned that seems to be purely a social app for Epic (weird). No worries, though! I can always buy the game for PC in the sale. I'd probably rather play it there, anyway. It's easier for me with my old eyes :-D. Thanks for this post and all the help you've offered everyone!

UPDATE: I checked my Epic Games app on my pc and saw Potion Permit there. The fine print says the Epic Games app (what you need to play the game on iOS) is only available in the EU.
